Communications & Development Specialist

Reporting to the CAO, the Communications & Development Specialist will be responsible for communications as well as grant research and writing. The Communications & Development Specialist will also contribute to by-law development, land use planning, tourism, and economic development.

Duties:

  • Provides communications services and produces deliverables such as reports, public announcements, newsletters, agendas, and letters.
  • Develops content for the municipal website and social media sites.
  • Seeks media coverage for newsworthy stories and events.
  • Manages sensitive and confidential communications.
  • Leads efforts to secure grants and other types of subsidies.
  • Reviews and drafts updates to by-laws.
  • Provides support for land-use planning projects.
  • Prepares plans/proposals to sell or develop municipal properties.
  • Works with Regional Service Commission (RSD) on matters related to community development, economic development, tourism, zoning, and land use.
  • Attends Council meetings and participates on committees as directed by CAO.

Experience:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
  • Experience in the communications field, preferably in government.
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills and presentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and integrity, to exercise discretion, judgment, and diplomacy, and to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Able to effectively manage multiple tasks, priorities, and projects and deliver under deadline pressure.
  • Sound understanding of the role of local government and the context in which the municipality operates.
  • Certification from the Association of Municipal Administrators of New Brunswick (AMANB) would be an asset.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate meetings, special events, conferences, and social media monitoring.
