Position Overview

The Engineering, Parks and Environment Department (Engineering Operations) – Utilities Section, requires a temporary full-time Assistant Supervisor, Operations – Utilities (Sewer & Solid Waste), for approximately two years.

Responsibilities
You will assist the section supervisor in a range of duties related to utility maintenance and construction tasks. You will participate and assist in the planning and assigning of work to a small group of subordinates engaged in sewer construction and maintenance tasks such as maintenance and repair of sewer systems and facilities as well as coordinating and directing the work of truck drivers in the solid waste area. You will also coordinate the work of equipment operators and external contractors. Your time will be spent actively in the field as well as at the Operations Centre.

Requirements
You will have considerable knowledge of and direct related experience in sewer construction and maintenance operations. You possess a thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, procedures and materials, tools and equipment used in sewer/utilities operations, maintenance and construction operations. Certification in Wastewater Distribution within the Environmental Operators Certification Program (EOCP) level 1 or higher would be an asset. Experience with solid waste management is an asset. The ability to supervise and assist in the work of a small group of employees, read construction drawings, prepare work records and set up grades are also required along with proficiency in Microsoft and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.

Compensation
$32.77 per hour
(January 2021 rates)

Hours of Work
8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday

Additional Information
For temporary full-time positions of 8 months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.
