Fort Nelson is a dynamic and active community located at Mile 300 of the world-famous Alaska Highway. Located in beautiful northeastern BC, Fort Nelson offers endless outdoor recreation opportunities. Reporting to the Senior Authorizations Specialist-Water, this position provides senior technical advice, support and recommendations regarding the allocation of water resources and adjudication of resource authorizations for the Natural Resource Sector. This largely entails reviewing applications for surface or groundwater water usage or instream construction projects. Additional duties may include conducting snow surveys, assisting with hydrometric monitoring, supporting flood response initiatives, site visits, responding to First Nation comments during consultation and answering inquiries from applicants and the public. This position works as part of a small team focused on water resource management and regularly interacts with other teams such as First Nations Relations, Front Counter BC and Ecosystems.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the resource management field, PLUS 2 years of related experience working in natural resource management; OR
  • Diploma in the resource management field, PLUS 4 years of related experience working in natural resource management; OR,
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
  • Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes that support natural resource management.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Experience in consulting, negotiating and resolving conflicts with stakeholders in natural resource management.
  • Formal water management training and/or experience.
  • Agricultural sector experience.

  • Willingness to conduct occasional field work
  • Valid BC driver’s license.
  • Must be physically able to carry equipment and supplies.
  • May be required to operate field equipment (i.e., quad, snowmobile)
  • Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service which may include a Criminal records check, and/or Criminal records Review Act (CCRA) check and/or enhanced screening checks as required by the Ministry (Note: It is important that you read the job posting carefully to understand the specific security screening requirements pertaining to the position).
