Who we are…

The Yukon Bureau of Statistics (YBS) is a branch of the Yukon government (YG) in the Department of Finance. YBS helps governments, businesses and residents of Yukon make informed decisions with the provision of timely and reliable statistical information. The Bureau collects, analyses and publishes statistical information, and works on statistical research projects and data modelling.

YBS collaborates with and assists YG departments in providing professional expertise and support in data collection, analysis and statistical research. The Bureau also collaborates with Statistics Canada, other federal departments, and provincial/territorial statistical agencies on matters of mutual interest and exchanges ideas and information with them.


The opportunity…

The Senior Information Officer is responsible for managing daily operations and resources of the Information Services Unit of YBS. The successful candidate will lead the analysis and interpretation of data, development of analytical and summary reports, and dissemination of YBS publications, and will respond to data requests and media queries.

An ideal candidate is expected to have background in and/or knowledge of data analysis and interpretation, writing and reviewing analytical reports, writing information notes for senior management and the media, web dissemination of data and reports, data quality and confidentiality, and data collection methods.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics or a relevant social science discipline (can be relaxed for candidates with experience in a similar job);
  • Experience in writing and reviewing reports with analyses and presentation of data, and supervising the development and dissemination of analytical reports;
  • Experience in researching, compiling and analyzing data, and presenting results with relevant contextual information to data users and/or the media; and
  • Proficient in using software for data analysis and presentation (MS Office Suite) and/or desktop publication (Adobe InDesign)
  • Experience in dealing with media queries, and knowledge of Statistics Canada’s data will be considered as assets.

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.
