Department Information
The Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) provides the residents of the Northwest Territories with access to quality programs, services and support to assist them in making informed and productive choices for themselves and their families with regard to education, training, careers, employment and labour, child development, languages, culture and heritage.
Job Information
Income Security Programs encourage Northerners to become self-reliant as individual capacity allows, participate fully in community life, and promote individual self-sufficiency. The Programs provide financial assistance to Northerners to help meet basic and enhanced needs. The Program encourages and supports greater self-reliance.
Using a Service Management approach in conjunction with Community Development processes, the Regional Manager promotes the general wellbeing of residents of the region, their communities and their environments. He/she is responsible for working towards social change and reducing poverty for the overall benefit of citizens of the Northwest Territories.
It is the responsibility of the Regional Manager to promote an ethical culture in the workplace, to ensure that clients receive professional and appropriate services and that relationship between clients and staffs are professional and clearly defined. The Regional Manager must assume a strong leadership role and maintain a close working relationship with regional stakeholders including ECE, other Government of the Northwest Territories' (GNWT) departments, Aboriginal organizations, Land Claimant Organizations, community governments and residents, employers, industry and related federal government departments.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- In-depth knowledge of Income Security Programs including those administered by Education, Culture and Employment, other GNWT Departments, other Governments, and agencies.
- In-depth knowledge of Income Security Program legislation, regulations and policies and procedures
- A thorough knowledge of the Sahtu Region, communities, culture and labour market, as well as an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the political environment, early childhood development, career development, human resources, adult learning theory
