The Ministry of Education provides leadership and direction to Saskatchewan’s education, early years, library and literacy sectors. The Ministry is committed to providing equitable and inclusive education, early years and library systems that benefit all learners. The Ministry of Education is advancing reconciliation with early years, Prekindergarten to Grade 12, library, and First Nations, Métis and Inuit partners by acknowledging our shared history to build a brighter future together. The Strategic Policy Unit of the Strategic Policy and Planning Branch within the Ministry of Education is seeking a strategic thinker and result-oriented team player to fill the role of Policy Advisor.
The successful candidate will work effectively with Indigenous communities and organizations to understand and explore policy issues and initiatives. This will require the individual to understand Canada’s history with Indigenous peoples, including the impacts of colonization on Indigenous peoples and an awareness of how beliefs and perceptions can influence relationship dynamics and interactions and of Indigenous cultures and realities.
The successful candidate will:
- apply analytical and research skills to identify issues, assess policy approaches and develop options and recommendations;
- write policy documents, position papers and decision items for senior officials and Cabinet;
- facilitate ministry, inter-ministry and interagency processes and structures to engage stakeholders in policy initiatives; and
- develop project plans and strategic plans to achieve outcomes.
You will have knowledge of provincial and national trends and issues impacting education. You will bring a solid understanding of the policy and program development process. Typically, the successful candidate will have gained the required knowledge and abilities through completion of a graduate degree in public administration, social sciences or education, supplemented with relevant work experience.
