The Ministry of Energy and Resources develops, co-ordinates and implements policies and programs to promote the growth and responsible development of the province’s natural resources industries. The ministry works as the primary regulatory authority for the oil and gas industry and ensure competitive royalty systems, regulations, and policy for all natural resource sectors.

The Opportunity

The Ministry of Energy and Resources, Resource Management branch is looking for a dynamic, visionary and results oriented individual who is an analytical and strategic leader for the position of Engineering Manager, Disposal Well and Storage Projects.
Reporting to the Director, Emissions and Subsurface Engineering, this position plays a key role within the ministry to supply leadership, expertise, advice and direction related to the responsible development and management of the province’s disposal and storage infrastructure specifically at the well and subsurface levels. This includes but is not limited to disposal wells, hydrocarbon storage, carbon sequestration, and project applications for non-hydrocarbon resources.

The duties of this position include:

  • Management of engineering staff in performance of regulatory functions including oversight of technical work, training, and performance management.
  • Co-ordination to ensure uniform provincial delivery, enforcement, compliance, management, and regulatory oversight for Disposal Well and Storage.

Projects

  • Identifying and championing opportunities for innovation and development within the area.
  • Representation of the branch and ministry with support of your area.
  • Using technical and regulatory expertise to identify risks and taking the initiative to address them.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in engineering or applied science.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration as a professional engineer with APEGS.
  • Expertise in petroleum and or/ reservoir engineering principles and standards.
  • Management experience with technical teams.
  • An understanding of risk-based outcome regulatory processes.
  • Ability to accurately interpret, understand and apply provincial legislation,
regulations, directives, and guidelines governing the oil and gas industry within
Saskatchewan.
  • Knowledge related to petroleum and natural gas, potash, lithum and geothermal
industries in Saskatchewan.
  • Knowledge of CSA standards – CSA Z341 and CSA 741-12(R2018).
  • Knowledge of project management and change management processes.
  • Familiarity with the Integrated Resource Information System (IRIS).
