This casual position is for experienced nurses (LPN) who can already work independently with clients and want to pick up some extra hours of work besides their full-time/part-time job in the Yukon.
Starcare Nursing Services is a private Home Care Service Provider in Whitehorse, Yukon. We are dedicated to helping our clients lead dignified, independent lifestyles in the comfort and safety of their own homes.
Place of Employment: Client homes and work sites outside of the client home as required.
Accountable to StarCare Nursing Services Director or Supervisor
Job Summary: The Licensed Practical Nurse is a front line position acting as a representative STARCARE NURSING SERVICES INC. and providing the services offered by the company. The LPN duties are not limited to those listed as the position has a wide scope of duties at times dependent on the client and always under the auspices of the company. The LPN will mostly work independently of co-workers or supervisors and therefore must balance good judgement and initiative along with the policies of the company. It is the responsibility of a LPN, under the supervision of the Director/Supervisor to perform routine treatments and services in the delivery of care to the clients. An LPN must serve as a staff nurse, and at times as a charge nurse, and is responsible for the daily work assignments and evaluation of the caregivers and PSWs, and in educating and listening to family and clients concerns.
One of the most important aspects of StarCare Nursing Services will be providing customers with a strong sense of self-esteem and independence. Taking a genuine interest in the client, their life and their environment will help create true sense of companionship.
The Licensed Practical Nurse will provide but not limited to providing nursing care and personal care. The LPN will also perform the tasks and responsibilities of PSWs and Home Care Workers, as needed.
Duties: The following list of duties is a guideline of possible duties to be performed independently or as a group of duties in the course of working with the client. The LPN duties are not limited to those listed.
- Prepares and administers medications and treatments with knowledge of purpose and effects of nursing care provided.
- Completes all documentation for assessment, planning, action and evaluation of care provided to clients,
- Functions in monitoring capacity as assigned for completion of client’s care, employee guidance.
- Maintains open lines of communication with co-workers, supervisor, physicians, therapists and families of clients.
- Acts on clients behalf to assure clients rights and to prevent client abuse.
- Acts on first aid knowledge in emergencies.
- Is aware of safety issues, accomplishing responsibilities in a safe manner, re-enforces good safety practices displayed by other staff members.
- Maintains confidentiality of information.
- Works as a team member.
- Is able to be physically fit to perform the following physical activities: Lifting, Kneeling, Stooping, Standing, Reaching, Pulling/pushing, Walking, Grasping, Moving fingers, Hearing, Talking, Sitting, Repetitive motions.
Work Hours: This position may require various shifts at various times, and may include nights, weekends, and extended stay in one or more work sites.
Qualifications and Experience: Current LPN license in the Yukon or permit to practice. Current certificate in Standard First Aid and CPR. Experience in Health Care setting is a must. Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation is an asset. Ability to work independently. Excellent communication and listening skills. Compassionate, patient and caring nature. Able to work in a stressful environment. Must be physically and mentally fit to handle the demands of care giving. Valid RCMP Vulnerable sector clearance required. Up-to-date with immunization-flu vaccinations preferred.
General Notes: The LPN will be required to maintain a safe working environment for themselves and their clients. There may be emergency situations where the LPN will have to react quickly with sound judgement. The scope of duties described in this document may not include all duties to be performed by the LPN and is subject to change.
