The opportunity
To perform duties within the Investment Finance unit to carry out tasks required to contribute to the department’s role. This is an entry-level position and may involve rotations to various units within the department.
Who you'll work with
Reporting to the Manager, Private Asset Operations.
What you'll do
  • Critical duties must be carried out and completed same day.
  • This job description applies to all Investment Finance “units” including, but not limited to: Operations, Performance & Risk Analytics, Investment Finance Systems Analysis, Securities Compliance, Real Estate.
  • The dollar value of transactions is significant and errors can result in large losses for the fund which may not be recoverable. Thus this position carries a high degree of responsibility.
  • This is a trainee position and thus receives mentorship and training from more senior team members. The trainee is encouraged to ask questions where uncertainty exists and to elevate any areas of concern to the senior members of the team.
1. Under the guidance of team members, carries out daily work within the Investment Finance “units”:
  • Resolves critical priorities for the day
  • Completes critical priorities for the day
  • Identifies and analyses issues and problems
  • Resolves and carries out appropriate solutions for issues and problems
  • Assists the team to ensure all critical priorities for the team are completed in the day
2. Verifies information and upholds controls
  • Checks and reconciles information to ensure accuracy
  • Applies controls, checks and balances
  • Follows up on discrepancies and resolves discrepancies
3. Produces reports
  • Generates standard reports
  • Analyses requests for non-standard reports and designs/delivers reports
4. Other
  • Assists with projects under the mentorship of the team
  • Suggests improvements and assists with implementation
  • Assists with the investigation and implementation of new products, programs or processes
  • Provides information and services to internal clients in a timely manner
  • Provides information and requests information as needed to established external suppliers (e.g. Custodian, Counter-parties, Systems providers, etc.)
  • Investigates system handling of products including testing of problems and testing of new systems
  • Analyses and implements new processes and systems
  • Improves the use of technology in all work processes
  • Provides constructive ideas relative to the Board's operations
  • Documents processes and procedures
  • Maintains personal awareness and current knowledge of issues affecting the Board's operations
  • Represents OTPP in a professional manner
  • Backs up team members during absences
  • Other duties as requested
What you'll need
  • Relevant university degree (such as Business, Economics, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Computer Science) or equivalent relevant experience with Investment Finance processes
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to think through problems, assess a variety of factors and recommend a solution
  • Excellent quantitative and computer skills (Excel and Access), including an understanding of database concepts
  • Good background skills and knowledge of accounting and reconciliation processes
  • Must be able to work to deadlines, adapt to a rapidly changing environment and sustain high efficiency levels
  • Must be very detail oriented, organized and thorough
  • Self starter, confident, innovative, team player
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be able to effectively take care of internal and external clients and suppliers
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Enrollment in the CPA program an asset
