The New Brunswick Multicultural Council Inc. (NBMC) is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills to assist the Accounting and Administrative Coordinator, the Executive Director and the Director of Finance, HR and Office Administration. The ideal candidate is bilingual, detail oriented, resourceful and demonstrates initiative.


NBMC is the bilingual nonprofit, umbrella organization for established and emerging multicultural/ethno-cultural associations and immigrant-serving agencies in the province. Since 1983, NBMC has played a key advisory role to federal, provincial and municipal levels of government on issues relating to multiculturalism, immigration, newcomer settlement, retention and labour market integration. NBMC is also valued by the multicultural community as a central coordinating /capacity-building body that promotes efficiency, avoids duplication of services, and allows for an exchange of best practices and other resources through its network of organizations, contacts, partners, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities:


Accounting 60%


  • Accounts Payable
  • Convert various forms of documents into PDF;
  • Review invoices and supporting documents for internal auditing, prior to payment;
  • Enter invoices into SAGE in preparation for payment.
  • Review expense claims, receipts, and approvals;
  • Support the finance team with inbox management for the accounting shared mailbox;
  • Assistance with reports and month-end closing procedures.

Administrative Support 15%


  • Purchase office supplies, stationary and other technology;
  • Oversee and coordinate necessary office repairs, maintenance, and related activities;
  • Maintain and update inventory of office equipment by collaborating with the HR Coordinator;
  • Prepare shipment of office equipment for new hires by coordinating with the HR Coordinator;
  • Respond to office phone calls and relay voicemail messages to the intended recipients;
  • Other duties as required.

Executive Support 25%


  • Logistics support (book travels, meeting spaces, rentals, etc.);
  • Meeting support (prepare agendas, take and distribute meeting minutes);
  • Correspondence support (phone calls, voicemails, email follow ups, etc.);
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications/ Requirements:


  • College diploma/certificate or degree with a specialization in accounting;
  • Knowledge of finance and accounting practice and procedures;
  • Proficient in Excel;
  • Understanding of computerized accounting systems is an asset (Sage an asset);
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and problem-solving skills;
  • Able to work under tight deadlines;
  • Attention to detail and ability to identify errors;
  • Must be exceptionally well-organized and be able to handle numerous tasks at the same time;
  • Can demonstrate initiative, work independently and as part of a team;
  • Flexible, outgoing and prepared to take on new tasks;
  • Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office suite products (Excel, Word, Outlook);
  • Candidate will work in the Fredericton office;
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset but not required.


This contract end date is
March 31, 2024, with the possibility of extension.
