The Gobind Sarvar is a private school that combines Alberta Curriculmn and International Baccalaureate frameworks to provide students from Kindergarten to Grade 4 the foundation for beautiful humanity.We invite applications for full-time (1.0 FTE) Kindergarten-Grade 4 French and Reading Specialist. We are looking for an individual who can teach French as well as help students in Reading. Teachers interested in collaboration, teamwork and culture building are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong 21st century teaching skills including designing and delivering project based learning that ensures high student engagement, critical thinking skills, inquiry, connections with real world problems and the use of technology as a learning tool.

Qualifications and Responsibilities:

  • Applicants are required to...have a Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate, a Bachelor of Education Degree or equivalent recognized by Alberta Education and an Understanding of different teaching methodologies and multiple intelligences Teach according to the educational needs abilities and achievement of the individual students and groups of students.

French Specialist should have:-

  • Some experience teaching/tutoring French at Kindergarten to Grade 4 (or equivalent) level
  • Strong English written and oral communication skills
  • Strong French skills and ability to guide students’ understanding
  • Good knowledge of the current Grades 9-12 French core curriculum

The Individual as Reading Specialist will help to create a culture of reading that ensures strong reading instruction, excitement about literature, and a genuine, institutional love for reading.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assessing student reading levels and identifying areas of need
  • Collaborating with teachers to design and implement individualized reading intervention plans for students who need extra support
  • Providing one-on-one or small group instruction to students
  • Utilizing a variety of teaching strategies and materials to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Monitoring student progress and providing feedback on ways to improve instruction
  • Participating in professional development and staying current with the latest research in reading instruction
  • Designing and delivering professional development opportunities for teachers
  • Staying current with research and best practices in the field of education and sharing this information with teachers and administrators
  • Collaborating with and coaching teachers on the use of assessment data to plan instruction
  • Analyzing school literacy data and planning for future literacy needs

Primary duties:

  • According to Alberta curriculum outcomes the teacher will develop a unit plan that includes topics such as logic, hypothesizing, and predicting answers.
  • He or she will also collaborate with teachers to develop a variety of inquiry and solution skills
  • Regular communication with the families to involve families in students’ learning
