Job Summary

Bring your supervisor experience to our team of Community Service super heroes.

The Assistant Supervisor for this posting will be responsible for the leadership of 27 staff in conjunction with a Supervisor and Supervisor of Admin Services. The position requires both an onsite presence in Nelson, providing front facing service to the public and manage a large virtual team which is responsible for streamline applications for clients who have not received benefits for up to 6 months and require a full review to assess eligibility for benefits. This team also works on Administrative under payments and Person with Disabilities file setup.

The Assistant Supervisor should have knowledge or ability to interpret legislation, working in a high-volume environment and have experience managing a virtual team with respect to engagement, performance and workforce management. This position should have an understanding of the demographic the Ministry provides services to, including persons with disabilities, mental health, homelessness and addiction issues.

The Service Delivery Division provides income and disability assistance services online, by phone, or face to face in our communities. We strive to ensure our services are reliable, responsive, inclusive, and accessible to all British Columbians who need our support.

Job Requirements:

  • Post-secondary certificate/diploma or higher in Social Services, Public Administration, Business Administration, and at least two (2) years’ related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

    Related Experience must include all of the following:
    • Experience leading staff in a high volume, rapidly changing customer service environment, through activities such as coaching, evaluating performance, providing direction to employees, orienting/training, and scheduling.
    • Experience using analytics to monitor performance.
    • Experience providing services to citizens from diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to, citizens with mental and physical health issues including substance use issues, and citizens who may be in crisis, impacted by trauma, and displaying frustration.
    • Experience planning, directing, monitoring, organizing, assessing and/or controlling of the resources of an organization.
    • Experience delivering programs and services requiring an assessment of eligibility, and applying rules, regulations and/or legislation.
    • Experience working with various computer applications: Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word; specialized data-bases, records-management, or case-management programs.
  • Experience working in a social service environment.

  • Experience working in the community with citizens and community partners.
  • Experience supervising in a virtual environment.
