The Role
The Shell Canada team is seeking a Contract Specialist, this team member will initially be seconded into LNG Canada, a joint venture company which is constructing a liquefied natural gas project that represents the largest private investment in Canada’s history with an overall project size of CAD $40B.
This secondment will include an initial 18-month assignment in LNG Canada’s Calgary offices supporting ongoing construction activities occurring in Kitimat, British Columbia. After this 18-month period, this team member will either remain supporting LNG Canada in another role associated with the operations or expansion of the facility or move in to another role across Shell Canada’s other business units including Chemicals & Products, Mobility, and Integrated Gas.
The Contract Specialist role on LNG Canada will be responsible for contract management of several directly-managed contracts such as environmental services and general works. In addition, the role will include contracting activities associated with the main lump-sum Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract. This position will report directly to the Sr. Contracts Manager, Construction & Brownfield Projects and work closely with the construction, HSSE, quality, project services, legal, and finance teams. Travel to Kitimat will be minimal (approximately once per quarter).
Accountabilities:
Manage post-award contract management activities including variations and correspondence
Closely coordinate with the construction team to ensure timely and quality delivery of the contractors
Drive improved performance of our contractors through influence and understanding of the contractual requirements
Change and improve our processes, ways of working and overall performance
Skills and Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering or other related field
3+ years of work experience in a similar role; some exposure to contract management activities is preferred
Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
LNG Canada is a joint venture comprised of Shell Canada Energy (40%) and affiliates of Petronas (25%) PetroChina (15%), Mitsubishi Corporation (15%) and Korea Gas Corporation (5%). The joint venture is building a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility in Kitimat, British Columbia.
