The mission of Amal Youth and Family Centre is to provide a range of innovative services responsive to the needs of individuals, families and communities. Amal aims to provide trauma-informed, neuro-diverse, and culturally, racially, linguistically, and developmentally sensitive services for youth and families, and to promote diversity in all forms with respect to citizenship status, culture, religion, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexuality, age, and ability.

We are currently recruiting in St. John's for the following positions:

Child and Youth Care Worker - Behavioural Health

(Full-time permanent)

Child and Youth Care Workers in our Behavioural Health program are responsible for providing therapeutic support and behavioural skills-based interventions to young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and/or an Intellectual Disability (ID), and/or who present with complex behavioural needs in staffed living arrangements. They engage in relational practice in the life space to create healing environments and promote growth and development. Specific duties and responsibilities include: Maintaining enriched environments and implementing skills-based behavioural intervention programs; demonstrating the consistent use of Universal Protocols to optimize safety, dignity, and joy for our young people; employing developmentally sensitive expectations in setting appropriate boundaries and limits; and assisting with personal hygiene tasks as required.

Qualifications: The successful applicant(s) must be creative, innovative, self-aware, confident, flexible, and energetic. A diploma/degree in child and youth care, community support, or a related field, experience working with young people and families with complex needs, or an equivalent combination of the two is required. Certification as a Registered Behavior Technician or willingness to obtain this credential within 6 months of hire is desirable. Applicants must have experience successfully de-escalating volatile and aggressive behaviour. Knowledge and understanding of trauma informed care and intervention is a necessity.

The position also requires a clear Certificate of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check from the RNC or RCMP; Child Protection Record Check; First Aid/CPR certification; valid Driver’s license and use of a private vehicle while at work. Successful candidates must submit valid proof of residency.
