The Opportunity
The City of Regina has Casual Labourer opportunities in the Water Ops branch and Operations Branch for up to 4 months. these positions work full-time hours during peak season, (April – October) and may be laid off during the winter. In some instances, dependent on work projects and operational needs, employees may have the opportunity to work hours throughout the winter months.
Under general supervision, employees will be required to assist in a variety of labourer, maintenance, and helper duties such as:
Water Meter installations and maintenance (Operations Branch specific)
Perform new water construction, repair, and maintenance.
Excavate trenches or excavations by hand and power-operated tools and equipment.
Lay and join all water main, sewer and connection pipes.
Clean, paint, maintain and test fire hydrants
Shall maintain good working relationship with co-workers, supervisors and contractors.
Perform general orders as directed by supervisors with little supervision.
Operate tandem and single axle trucks assigned to the Water Operations Branch.
Cleaning and maintenance activities of vehicles, equipment & assets.
Shall follow all rules and regulations as set out in the Saskatchewan Employment Act and the City of Regina Corporate Safety Manual.

Candidates will be screened on the following criteria:
Basic computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office.
Must have a valid Class 1A driver's License.
Knowledge and experience of methods, procedures and maintenance with water and sewer construction would be an asset
Experience operating large and small equipment and hand tools
Demonstrated ability to perform heavy physical labour over sustained periods in all types of weather conditions.
Must have or be willing to obtain certification in safe trenching, confined space, WHMIS, necessary permits and certification to operate equipment as required.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Demonstrated ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Shall establish good interpersonal skills with fellow workers and citizens are a must.
Must successfully complete Water Operations Branch orientation and training prior to any work being assigned.
Shall always maintain a safety conscience attitude.

Hourly Salary: The hourly base wage for the Casual Labourer position is $17.67; however, you may be paid for work performed as a Skilled Labourer with a typical hourly rate of $26.16.
