Reporting to the Settlement Coordinator, the Application Support Officer is responsible for providing comprehensive assistance and support to refugees and immigrants in their housing applications and financial benefit programs. The role involves working collaboratively with various divisions within the ANC to ensure effective settlement and integration services.


Roles and Responsibilities


The Application Support Officer plays a critical role in ensuring that refugees and immigrants receive essential support in housing applications and financial benefit programs.

  • Assist RAP and Settlement clients in finding, stabilizing, and maintaining suitable housing from city, provincial, and private landlords.
  • Provide guidance and support to clients in completing housing applications accurately and efficiently. Educate clients on housing options and related issues, including landlord/tenant rights.
  • Develop and maintain a database of landlords and available housing units.
  • Conduct outreach and liaison activities with community partners and landlords.
  • Collaborate with RAP and Settlement Counselors to address clients' housing needs.
  • Help RAP and Settlement clients understand and apply for federal and provincial financial benefits, programs, and services such as AESL Income Support, NLHC, Child Tax Benefits, GST, and disability benefits.
  • Provide individual and group information workshops on federal and provincial applications.
  • Support clients in completing application forms accurately and gathering required documentation. Assist clients in navigating the application process and addressing any inquiries or challenges.
  • Provide trauma-informed and client-centered supportive counseling, crisis intervention, and mediation related to housing and financial benefit applications.
  • Conduct educational workshops for staff to enhance their knowledge of client housing and financial benefits.
  • Maintain program files, statistical information, and evaluation data, and prepare reports as needed. Build and maintain positive working relationships with Settlement staff, other ANC divisions, clients, and federal, provincial, and community partners.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant Human Services degree or equivalent through work experience.
  • Strong crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Previous case management experience supporting a vulnerable population.
  • Knowledge of the specific issues faced by refugees and immigrants.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience in setting goals, establishing timelines, and delivering objectives.
  • Ability to meet deadlines for report writing and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in a second language is an asset.

Conditions of Employment

  • Legal authorization to work in Canada
  • Flexible to work outside of standard core hours (Monday-Friday, 9 am - 5 pm)
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required
  • Position is subject to a satisfactory Certificate of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary
