This is passenger vehicle driving work in transporting RCMP vehicles to and from service and repair shops. An incumbent assists members by changing flat tires and jump starting dead batteries; performs a variety of minor repairs; road tests vehicles with reported mechanical problems to determine the general nature of the problems in order to establish the type of repair required; removes police radio transmitters from vehicles to prevent unauthorized use; prepares requisitions for signature, for procurement of equipment and supplies; maintains an inventory of non-chargeable items; ensures that all vehicles are equipped with standard supplies and equipment; delivers old vehicles to Post Garage and picks up replacement vehicles; receives invoices from clerical staff for vehicle repair and servicing work; prepares and maintains simple files and records related to the work. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include up to high school graduation, preferably including or supplemented by courses related to the work plus sound experience in operating passenger vehicles and some experience in automotive repair or service work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Thorough knowledge of the rules of safe operation and of the precautions necessary to avoid accidents in driving passenger automobiles and vans. Sound knowledge of city streets and traffic routes; the RCMP policies, practices and procedures applicable to the work performed. Working knowledge of the operating principles of internal combustion engines and automotive equipment. Ability to operate automobiles and vans and police radios; perform minor repair tasks. Skill in the operation of automobiles and vans; the use and care of tools and equipment used in the work. Mechanical aptitude. A valid Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required. You must obtain and maintain an Enhanced RCMP Security Clearance as a condition of employment.
