About Us



The Court of Appeal of Alberta sits in both Edmonton and Calgary and hears appeals from the Court of King's Bench, Provincial Court and administrative tribunals. Members of the Alberta Court of Appeal are also appointed to the Northwest Territories Court of Appeal and the Nunavut Court of Appeal.


Role

The Court of Appeal Training Coordinator is responsible for working with business partners to determine current processes and training needs, develop a concentrated three- to four-month training plan and deliver that training to staff across the entire organization quickly, effectively and consistently. This includes documenting changes to procedures by updating manuals, protocols, checklists, etc. and developing any new resources needed, as well as auditing progress and addressing gaps.

Responsibilities of this role:

  • You will be responsible for leading and collaborating on the planning, design, development, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of an effective training program, e-courses and learning tools to ensure staff have the tools, skills and knowledge to provide high quality services.
  • You will provide expertise and proactive consultation with the business area in planning learning and development initiatives to ensure course content, materials and tools reflect changing business area needs and are current, relevant and in place when required.
  • You will continually research and review adult learning and training philosophies, principles, methodologies and tools to ensure training initiatives utilize the most effective and efficient best practices in meeting the adult education training requirements.
  • You will provide advice, identify of issues and develop integrated solutions to support the Court of Appeal in achieving its business plan.
  • You will provide training initiatives based on the needs and in collaboration with business partners.
  • You will be responsible for the planning, design, development and evaluation of training initiatives.
  • You will identify emerging issues, and changing training needs to ensure the Court of Appeal is able to meet the challenges of delivering effective and timely judicial results to Albertans.


Specific skills required include:

  • Leadership skills to successfully lead projects, working and focus groups and implement the training plans
  • Effective communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
  • Effective writing skills to document procedure changes and create/update manuals, protocols, checklists, etc.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects, meet timelines and work under pressure
  • Ability to identify trends and anticipate future training and development needs
  • Ability to collaborate with all levels and with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to build strong work relationships and partnerships
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work
  • Demonstrated creativity and analytical ability to develop and implement programs and initiatives
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Project management skills

Qualifications

University graduation in a related field (4 years bachelor’s degree in Education or a degree in the application of training for adult education) plus 2 years progressively experience in writing training materials/ plans, adult education or court; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency:
Directly related experience or education considered based on:

  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education; or
  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience


The following will be considered Assets:

  • Experience with curriculum development approaches and associated delivery techniques (e.g., classroom, web-enabled and e-learning)
  • Experience with establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of government decision-making, implementation, and internal and external stakeholder engagement processes and instruments
  • Several years experience in court operations
  • Working knowledge of CAMS, JOIN, FTR and Adobe.
  • Excellent keyboarding skills.
  • A good working knowledge of MS Office Suite and a proficiency for using Microsoft Word and Outlook, is required.

Salary

$2,588.06 - $3,397.76 bi-weekly ($67,548 to 88,682/year)
