The Lead Environmental Services Worker (LESW) is responsible for the overall cleanliness and upkeep of Edmonton Centre of Hope buildings and/or grounds. The LESW provides direction and supervision to Environmental Services Workers and assists the Environmental Services Manager with the smooth, efficient, and effective delivery of environmental services.
The LESW ensures that services are delivered in a manner that meets or exceeds Health & Safety Standards and funder/contract expectations, demonstrates respect for all individuals, achieves the goal of providing a home-like environment and evidences Christian values
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead Supervisory Duties
- Lead Environmental Services Workers (LESW) are supervised by the Environmental Services Manager and should expect to receive direction specific to task and program environmental needs from management at the site where the Worker is delivering services.
The LESW is responsible for all tasks assigned to Environmental Services Workers as described in this job description, in addition to the responsibilities specific to the Lead designation.
Assist in the preparation of schedules for staff to assure that all times are covered with the appropriate number and classification of staff.
Provide supervision of Environmental Services staff during appointed shift.
Assist in the planning of environmental work in consultation with the Environmental Service Manager. · Assist in the ordering of cleaning supplies, linens, and equipment from approved suppliers, maintaining an adequate inventory of all supplies in consultation with the Environmental Service Manager.
Participate in any evaluation of Environmental Services and ensure that ongoing review and improvement is the standard.
Report all facility deficiencies in environmental services areas and in all program areas to the Environmental Service Manager.
Assist in the training and evaluation of staff as directed by the Environmental Service Manager.
Ensure that the main stock room inventory is accurate and utilized in ordering process.
Supervise and assign jobs to Fine Options, community hours and volunteers.
Assist in the development of Environmental Services schedules Environmental Services Duties
It is understood that “cleaning” will involve any and all activities required to ensure Edmonton Centre of Hope buildings and surrounding grounds are sanitary, clear of debris, and maintained in a condition that ensures a pleasant, positive environment for clients, staff, and visitors. This will involve, but is not limited to, sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning all washroom fixtures, cleaning walls, doors, floors, ceilings, windows, light fixtures, storage areas and bins, changing linens and processing dirty linens, stocking linen and supply areas, removal of garbage and processing of recycling.
Environmental Workers should ensure that a “universal precautions” approach is used when carrying out duties by using cleaning supplies that are appropriate and specific to the task at hand, wearing disposable gloves, masks, and coveralls as required, disposing of bio-hazards in the appropriate and approved manner, and ensuring that proper hand washing techniques are used at all times. · Ensure a high level of cleanliness and sanitary standards are achieved and maintained in all areas of all Edmonton Centre of Hope facilities, which includes, but is not limited to:
Cleaning of residents’ rooms, common areas, staff areas and offices, and exterior grounds areas
Cleaning all staff areas including offices, reception, meeting rooms, change rooms, and washrooms
Cleaning, moving, and arranging furniture as required · Report any damage or deficiencies of property or furnishings to the Environmental Services Manager. · Carry out infestation control procedures, ensuring that established procedures are followed, including the use of protective clothing and materials.
Ensure the general upkeep of external property such as mowing lawns, keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice, cleaning the main floor outside windows, picking up litter, emptying outside garbage bins, sweeping sidewalks, gardening/watering and pruning shrubs and raking when scheduled to carry out these duties.
Restock washroom supplies and distributes received material as required. · Spot wash accessible walls, strips and waxes floors and shampoos carpets as required. · Change linens and bedding.
Clean private rooms, pods & dorms upon check out of clients and prepare room for new resident as per requirements made by Manager.
Ensure proper storage, labeling and care of cleaning equipment and supplies.
Establish and monitor preventative maintenance procedures for equipment used for cleaning duties, and notify Environmental Service Manager when repairs and/or replacement of equipment is needed.
The Salvation Army provides uniforms to all Environmental Workers and provides for on-site laundering of these uniforms.
Each Environmental Service Worker is responsible to report for work each day in a clean uniform and ensuring that soiled uniforms are put through the laundry for cleaning and returned to the respective worker. Uniforms are not to be taken home for Health & Safety reasons.
The Salvation Army Edmonton Centre of Hope Picture Identification (ID) must be worn and visible at all times when scheduled for duty.
Laundry Duties: Ensure that all bedding, rags, mop heads, Environmental, Maintenance, and Food Services uniforms are cleaned on a regular basis.
Perform regular inventory and labeling of all linen supplies Ensure that all clean & dried linens are bagged & stored so linens will not gather dust or become contaminated, and will be protected from infestations.
Complete minor sewing/tailoring duties as assigned Maintain an orderly and clean laundry area · All keys that environmental staff need to perform their duties are to be stored at the front desk of the facility where they are working. This will require that workers will retrieve keys needed at the start of their shifts and ensure the keys are returned to the designated area at the end of their shifts. · Assist in the preparations needed for special events including setup, take down, moving of furnishings, and end of event clean up (e.g. Community Christmas Dinner, Staff Events, Special Functions). · Perform lifting tasks as required, lifting pails, boxes etc. of 25 lbs using the proper procedure.
Ensure that all environmental service areas and equipment are maintained according to the Edmonton Centre of Hope standards. · Represent The Salvation Army in a professional manner at all times and uphold the Mission of The Salvation Army. · All other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- NOTE: For some jobs, you may be required to provide validated educational documentation.
Education/Certifications:
- High School graduate required
- Clear Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check is a requirement
Experience:
- One or more years of prior related experience
- General familiarity with cleaning procedures in an organizational setting
- Experience in staff supervision
- Respect and understanding of The Salvation Army – its mission, culture, and value
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
Good communication skills – both written and verbal
- Be able to work well in a team setting
- Effective organizational and time management skills
- Be able to work in a fast-paced environment of sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching
- Have the ability to use floor machine equipment efficiently
