Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Student Financial Services, the Financial Literacy Coordinator is an integral part of Centennial College’s commitment to providing financial education to students. The Financial Literacy Coordinator, works to supports enrolment, empowerment, and employment for students and this role is focused on delivering universal online and in-person access to financial literacy resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and possess the knowledge on delivering universal online and in-person access to financial literacy resources to raise student’s awareness of available financial assistance options to maximize enrollment and exposure.
  • Maintains the highest level of customer service while working within the strictest confines of confidentiality to secure student’s, spouses and parents personal, private information with respect to Ontario Student Assistance Program and College policies and government Freedom of Information regulations.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining, and updating a Financial Literacy platform to raise students’ awareness of available financial assistance options and build financial resilience.
  • Uses IM/IT tools such as MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project) Analytics software, SharePoint, various graphic design software, and surveys to produce statistical reports and analysis;
  • Creates and presents informational documents about financial literacy, such as briefing materials, executive summaries, charts, graphs, minutes, letters, or emails for the team, senior management, and/or external stakeholders;
  • Work with student budgets, conducting personal interviews with students, assessing financial needs, and providing appropriate recommendations
  • Working as a team member supporting Finance Assistance staff with administration tasks, attending campus initiatives that address economic deprivation within marginalized communities, and create platforms to elevate racialized/Indigenous student voices and financial well-being.
  • Use knowledge of OSAP, Awards, cash management, credit, and budgeting to provide support and resources to marginalized students facing hardships.
  • Proactively uncover opportunities to match student needs through effective communication and probing skills
  • Provides subject matter expertise and guidance to the Student Financial Services Team
  • Regularly develop and execute dynamic workshops, events, and promotions
  • Respectful and sensitive to diverse cultural, ethnic, economic and sexual orientation differences.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Three (3) year diploma preferably Business, Finance, Community / Social Services programs such as Social Service Worker, Community Development, and Justice and Community. A combination of relevant education and experience would be also considered
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in fast paced computerized office environment requiring knowledge
  • Experience managing community-based projects and/or programs.
  • Experience working with marginalized students facing barriers/challenges in accessing and navigating local financial services, support, and resources.
  • Experience working in community-based organizations that have served one or more of the historically marginalized communities identified by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities.
  • Experience working with databases and student information systems, preferably Banner, or other CRM within a post-secondary institution.
  • Familiar with Computer software applications, integrated information systems, Banner, Microsoft Office, and Web.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the financial/investing service sector.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in financial literacy, and budgeting, analytically proficient, and adept in problem-solving with a thorough and attentive focus on detail.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally, and in writing
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.

  • Project management experience is preferable.
