POSITION TITLE: Patient Engagement Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Culture, Lands and Protection / Hotii ts’eeda
STATUS: Full-time Term to June 30, 2024; Part-Time, possible
LOCATION: Yellowknife, NT
CLOSING DATE: June 30th, 2023; 5:00 p.m.

OUTLINE OF THE POSITION:
Under direction of the Hotii Ts’eeda Executive Director, the Patient Engagement Specialist provides advice and services fostering patient engagement with a focus on youth and community. They are tasked with responding to researcher queries about project development and establishment; participating on the SPOR Patient Engagement Working Group; attending Healthy Living Fairs and NWT based events supporting health initiatives; participating in research or initiatives with youth/community members. They are responsible for providing advice on development and promotion of the funding programs for Aurora College students and NWT Indigenous medical students; developing summary reports on all conferences, initiatives and events; creating content and workplans for HT webinar series with regards to available critical elements each year; may undertake original research involving working directly with individuals, conducting interviews, recording, transcribing and organizing results. This position has a significant role in working directly with youth and community partners to assist them with engaging in research or developing their own initiatives; giving presentations within the NWT, including recording online webinars for viewing and downloading by partners. In addition, a portion of this role may require time to be dedicated to Tłıc̨hǫ Government or other partners’ research and initiatives related to health.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Degree in health-related area with research experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience, ie. Indigenous governance and knowledge systems
  • 3-5 years of professional experience working with youth and NWT community(s) outside of Yellowknife or equivalent experience
  • Experience working with NWT residents in a health care context
  • Oral fluency in English and preferably one of the 9 Indigenous languages of the NWT
  • Knowledge of the North with regards to its environmental, political and social climate
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Willingness to develop organizational, time-management and priority setting skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Willingness to work toward assuming progressive levels of responsibility and work independently without direct supervision
  • Ability to make effective decisions and problem-solve under stressful conditions

Salary: $87,000.00-$97,000.00 per year
