FOREPERSON

Public Works, Water & Wastewater

(Full-Time Permanent)

The City of Corner Brook is presently accepting applications for the position of Foreperson. This position will report to the superintendent of Water & Wastewater from April 15th to November 30th and to the Superintendent of Public Works from December 1st to April 14th each year.

DUTIES: The successful candidate will become familiar with the entire water supply system and sewage disposal system for the City of Corner Brook. They will be required to take on the responsibility of knowing how the City’s water distribution system works including underground services, regulating stations, in-take and chlorinating systems, water storage facilities and water monitoring equipment. They will become responsible for ensuring that the quality of the City’s water supply is kept at the highest possible standard and ensure that a constant and reliable supply of water is provided to the citizens of Corner Brook. The successful candidate will also take on the responsibility of knowing how the City’s sewerage disposal systems works, including underground services, treatment facilities, outfall locations and various types of lift stations while being ever conscious of the environmental and safety issues involved.

The successful candidate will also become familiar with the City’s Public Works division; including the snow clearing operation. This position is also be responsible for planning, organizing and directing the daily operation of personnel and equipment related to public works and water & wastewater projects and maintenance. This position must work in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and must sustain a strong commitment to safety, ensuring that safety is kept at the forefront and no compromises are encountered which would potentially jeopardize the safety of the workers, the equipment or members of the public.

The successful applicant may also be required to handle media requests, including television and/or radio interviews and other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Successful completion of high school supplemented with a post-secondary training course in a field that is relevant to municipal water distribution and sewerage disposal such as a Civil Engineering Technology diploma, knowledge of heavy equipment operations, a minimum of five years’ experience in a supervisory role. A comparable combination of related work experience and education will be given consideration when evaluating applicants. Class 5 driver’s license is a necessity.

SALARY: $57,403.50 - $72,711.10

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Union

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week (On call rotation & overtime is a requirement of this position)
