New Job Coordinator, Nwt Victim Services In Northwest Territories

The mandate of the Department of Justice is to administer justice, including policing, community justice, victims services and corrections in the Northwest Territories. This mandate will be carried out in a manner which respects community and indigenous values and encourages communities to assume increasing responsibilities.

The Coordinator, NWT Victim Services (Coordinator) is responsible for implementing new and supporting existing victim services programs in the Northwest Territories.

The Coordinator is responsible for developing victims of crime initiatives in NWT communities and providing administrative support to the Victims Assistance Committee. The incumbent is also responsible for implementing of new and ongoing victim initiatives for the Department of Justice to further the GNWT’s commitment to build safer communities and to support capacity building within the communities. The work of the Coordinator will be completed in a manner that reflects the needs of victims in the NWT, current best practices in research, both nationally and internationally.

On behalf of the GNWT, the Coordinator will apply for funding and prepare funding reports to enhance victim services in the Northwest Territories designed to help individuals, families and communities deal with the impact of victimization.

Typically, these skills are typically obtained through the completion of a bachelor’s degree in a Social Sciences field (criminology, psychology, social work, sociology) coupled with 3 years’ experience working in community development, within the community justice field or with victims.
