This position is designated bilingual. The successful candidate must be able to communicate verbally and in writing in both official languages (English and French).
The Department of Education is seeking to fill a Bilingual Cataloguing Librarian within the Bureau de l'éducation française (BEF) / Direction des ressources éducatives françaises (DREF).
The DREF is a unique French language educational resource centre in Manitoba. It provides physical and digital educational resources, library and information services, support for the development and production of provincial standardized tests, and media production services for K-12 educators throughout the province, in the Français and French Immersion programs, and in the French courses within the English Program.

Qualifications:
Essential:
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science with experience working in a library setting. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may also be considered.
- Experience in cataloguing; both original and copy cataloguing of physical and digital resources.
- Recent experience working with an Integrated Library System, the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules (AACR2) and the Marc format.
- Ability to coordinate a team to meet performance expectations.
- Strong organizational skills with experience working independently.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to foster and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and various internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in French.
- Very good verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Knowledge of French Language programs and curricula in Manitoba.
Duties:
Under the supervision of the Head Librarian, the Cataloguing Librarian is responsible for creating and maintaining the online public access catalogue. This includes cataloguing all French resources in the Direction des ressources éducatives’s collection according to current cataloguing standards using bibliographic cataloguing tools and preparing original bibliographic notices that align with DREF’s customized formats. The incumbent monitors the latest developments in digital content and online library services and responds to school personnel who request bibliographical records for their libraries. The incumbent supervises a team of professionals responsible for acquisitions and processing of physical resources. The Cataloguing Librarian participates in all initiatives and promotional activities of the library.
