This position will be working in our Toronto office within the Private Infrastructure business of CBRE Investment Management. The Private Infrastructure team creates long-term value for its fund and separate account clients by sourcing, acquiring and managing high-quality investments and building comprehensive infrastructure portfolios. The Role
We are looking for an Associate with two or more years of relevant investment experience to join our growing team of professionals. As a member of the Investment Team, the Associate will play a key role investing in global infrastructure assets on behalf of our flagship fund and separately managed accounts. The Associate will have the opportunity to work across direct and indirect businesses and gain exposure to direct transactions, co-investments, primary fund commitments and secondary opportunities. Working closely with senior investment professionals, the Associate play an important role in sourcing, diligencing, closing and managing global infrastructure investments. This role is based in Toronto and will involve regular collaboration with colleagues in London as well as investment partners globally.
Responsibilities
- Assist in all aspects of the investment process including sourcing, due diligence, structuring, negotiations, and closing of both direct and indirect investments
- Run day-to-day requirements of the deal process to ensure efficient transition through the various stages of an opportunity. This includes communications with key stakeholders, investment partners and clients, as well as regular check-ins with the broader investment team and presentations to the investment committee
- Prepare detailed investment recommendations outlining key elements of the investment thesis, including an assessment of the relevant merits and risks of each investment, supported by in-depth research and analysis of market and industry trends, track record evaluation, competitor analysis, and other factors in support of the investment thesis
- Present investment recommendations as part of the internal and external approval processes and manage multiple and ongoing client follow-on requests
- Participate in all facets of portfolio management, including portfolio construction and monitoring, investment pacing, allocation analysis, analytics, establishing and adhering to investment guidelines, and establishing appropriate investment benchmarks
- Participate in all facets of asset management, including establishing and reviewing company strategy, reviewing management reporting, attending management and board meetings, recruiting new management team members, and assisting with follow-on investment opportunities
- Manage the deal flow/pipeline of opportunities, conducting market/industry research, performing valuation and track record analysis, and creating detailed financial models
- Meet with and assess fund managers and management teams, assist in the implementation and maintenance of new investment management systems, and create reports to guide discussions at bi-weekly team meetings
- Assist in the development of private markets investment strategies, including preparing strategy materials for senior management and investment committees and as required, playing a supporting role in various business development initiatives for the firm
Qualifications
- At least two (2) years of relevant experience in private equity, preferably with a focus on infrastructure or infrastructure-adjacent sectors OR infrastructure-related investment banking, transaction services, or consulting OR commercial roles in a relevant industry (i.e., renewable energy, transportation, electric vehicles, datacentres, cell towers, utilities, etc.) OR corporate law, preferably with a focus on infrastructure M&A
- Well-developed qualitative and quantitative analytical skills, including financial modelling, valuation, and due diligence capabilities
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, intellectual agility, client and time management skills
- Ambitious self-starter and solid team player with a positive attitude
- The candidate must have high professional and ethical standards, perform work beyond what is required, and a willingness to “roll up your sleeves” to get work done in an entrepreneurial environment
- Demonstrated ability to be resourceful and persistent in gathering and assessing information and to quickly assimilate knowledge
- Highly proficient in Excel with advanced abilities in Word and PowerPoint
- Completion of or working toward a professional designation (e.g., CFA or CPA) and/or fluency in multiple languages considered an advantage
- Completion of a university degree with a strong academic record
- Ability to travel internationally for management meetings, investment partner meetings and site visits
