As a Waste and Recycling Educator you will represent Waste and Recycling Services (W&RS) in all aspects of the business unit and promote the vision of leading the community towards zero waste through the development and delivery of public programs. Primary duties include:

Develop and deliver W&RS educational programs to school groups, general public and specific groups as requested, such as seniors, persons with developmental disabilities, businesses, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Maintain program information, track participation, and evaluate programs on an ongoing basis.

Liaise with local organizations to train volunteers in support of their waste and recycling education and waste diversion efforts.

Represent W&RS at public events such as trade shows, festivals, councilor events, other booths in public areas.

Collaborate with internal departments to develop customized information sessions to promote services.

Develop communication materials and write educational material based on the latest research in the field of environmental education.

Coordinate with internal departments to collect and analyze data.
Qualifications
-
A completed 2 year diploma in Environmental Education, Communications, Environmental Sciences, or a related field, combined with at least 3 years of relevant experience; OR A degree in any of the above listed fields or related combined with at least 1 year of relevant experience.

Experience must include customer service, handling customer complaints and difficult customers, education techniques, and event management.
- A solid understanding of environmental education techniques will be considered an asset.

Excellent customer focus, communication, social marketing and environmental education skills and the ability to engage and interact with the public.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in an Office Environment, Landfill, Community Centres, and Exhibition halls. Required to drive to offsite meetings.

Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
