Job Overview: The Vice President of Merchandising will work closely with the Retail Planning & Inventory Management team, and Category teams to ensure an effective strategy is developed, implemented, and maintained for the optimal sale of goods at Peavey Industries.

They will drive effective merchandising strategies across diverse cross-functional stakeholders at all levels of the business and will have a long-term vision to develop and execute a successful multi-year business strategy. With their people-focused and enthusiastic approach, they will have the ability to align their team around common objectives and foster commitment to these objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, execute and deliver merchandising strategies and category management tactics while ensuring alignment with financial plans and measurements
  • Connect and maintain the relationship between strategy development and organizational goals
  • Develop annual financial plans which include setting sales, margin, and inventory targets
  • Monitor the Canadian competitive landscape and adjust strategies as needed
  • Provide top-down direction for Merchandise Financial Plan and ensure Merchandise Financial Plan aligns to Category Strategy
  • Set strategic category roles and high-level priorities for all Directors of Merchandising and Category Managers
  • Lead and drive the annual category strategy development, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities and cross-functional partners
  • Ensure the link between category strategy, assortment planning and execution activities for all business channels
  • Develop and implement vendor fund targets and negotiation approaches
  • Build and maintain strong vendor partnerships and ensure vendors are meeting performance expectations
  • Discuss vendor payment terms and information regarding vendor maintenance and be a point of escalation in vendor negotiations
  • Ensure appropriate coaching, training and development is provided for all members of the team
  • Support employee engagement/retention initiatives, succession planning, and internal promotions within the Merchandising team
  • Lead strategy and process development for key areas of the business including pricing, private label, inventory management, seasonal execution, line reviews, ecommerce, and clearance
  • Optimize organizational structure in order to support initiatives and task execution with a focus on developing strong team members through succession planning
  • Partner with Retail Planning & Inventory Management team on financial plan and goals for sales margin and inventory
  • Maximize efficiency and productivity through extensive process analysis and interdepartmental collaboration
  • Perform work and build relationships in alignment with Peavey’s Leadership Charter by leading and working with respect and care as it pertains to supporting one another and the business
  • Promote and champion diversity and inclusion throughout Peavey Industries by respectfully identifying and discussing potential bias, upholding FABRIC, and embracing uniqueness
Qualifications & Key Competencies
  • Education in Business or a related field and related certification/equivalent experience
  • 15 years' experience in pricing and category management/merchandising
  • 12 years' experience in a leadership role
  • Proven financial skills relating to budgets and business analysis
  • Open to buy experience
  • Creates or identifies new opportunities to improve or expand business operations and impact
  • Dedicated to the customer satisfaction and experience
  • Creates compelling strategic vision that spurs sustained organizational action
  • Leads self and others through a process of creating and implementing generative solutions
  • Is naturally optimistic, persistent, and competitive in the pursuit of sales goals
