POSITION: RECEATION ASSISTANT (CASUAL)

RESPONSIBLE TO: PROGRAMS & SERVICES SUPERVISOR

NATURE OF WORK: Under the general supervision of the Programs & Services Supervisor, this position is responsible for assisting with the planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating recreation and leisure program opportunities and special events for people of all ages and abilities. The incumbent is also responsible to assist in supervision and use of Town facilities by working with community groups, provincial bodies, conferences, camps, tourist agencies and other such bodies who utilize the Town of Cornwall recreation facilities to run programs and services.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Assist with development, coordination, implementation, promotion, and evaluation of recreational programs for all ages and abilities

Providing hands-on delivery of summer camps and programming, assist other organizations delivering recreation programming in the community.

Assist with the development and implementation of community events for all ages, based on community needs and wants, and actively participate in specific community operated events when necessary.

Assist in the scheduling, maintenance and supervision of Town owned and operated recreation facilities.

Assists with hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, and evaluating part-time and seasonal personnel; assigns work as necessary

Provide administrative support to the Department, which could include program registration, information, general office duties, correspondence and data collections.

Assist with public relation duties such as preparing and distributing flyers, press releases, and brochures and social media.

Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment; distribute supplies and equipment; assist with ordering supplies and equipment for recreation and athletic programs.

This position requires flexible schedule with work primarily between the hours of 1pm – 9pm. And weekend work.

Perform other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

Working knowledge of current recreation trends

Strong communication skills and ability to appropriately deal with many different target populations

Strong ability in recreation program and event design, development, implementation and evaluation

Proficiency in gathering information, setting priorities and providing direction and sound judgement with respect to recreation related matters

Strong ability to successfully interface with the community, other levels of government and consultants

Experience in grant writing and awareness of resources that exist to assist with recreation programming costs is an asset.

Experience with and understanding of effective advertising and promotional techniques

Valid driver’s license & access to personal vehicle. (Class 4 Drivers License would be an asset or a willingness to obtain).

Must have current certification in First – Aid / CPR or willing to obtain.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Experience in a recreational environment is an asset.

Must have general knowledge on the operation of landscaping equipment including lawn mowers, and whippers.

Must be willing to work varied hours as weekends and evening hours will be necessary.

SALARY: $ 18.00 / hour

security reference check.
