Job Information

Dehcho Divisional Education Council invites applications for the 2023-2024 school year for two Teacher Consultants, (Literacy Interventionist Consultant). The primary focus of this position will be improving student achievement in literacy through the implementation of the Levelled Literacy Intervention Program (LLI) with groups of 2-3 students at a time. The successful applicant should have elementary training and literacy intervention teaching experience. A valid driver’s license is also required as this position involves extensive travel within the Dehcho Region.


Teacher Consultant TERM 2023-2024 school year- Fort Simpson

As a key member of a dedicated educational leadership team responsible for providing consultative and collaborative support to DDEC schools, the incumbent Literacy Interventionist consultant shall:

  • Work closely with DDEC Literacy Coordinator to ensure school-based literacy intervention aligns with division operating plan targets.
  • Participate collaboratively in DDEC literacy initiatives.
  • Work with school staff to develop schedules which meet student needs.
  • Coachability and a growth mindset and openness to learning is a must for the successful candidate.
  • Willingness to actively participate in DDEC/NWT in-services and training.
  • Consult frequently with classroom teachers to review data that informs instructional decisions from anecdotal observations and formal assessments. Collaborate with teachers to share observations of reading strengths and weaknesses and implement common strategies to support student growth.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, progress and assessment documentation.
  • Communicate regularly with parents to encourage parental participation and support of this program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • holds a B.Ed. degree;
  • holds an NWT professional teaching certificate, or is eligible to obtain one;
  • LLI certification (or be working towards certification)
  • has a working knowledge of the NWT K-12 English Language Arts Curriculum: including Fountas & Pinnell balanced literacy components.
  • possesses specialization, training and experience in Literacy Intervention (LLI) and/or any of the above listed.
  • demonstrates current knowledge and practical experience in Assessment, Differentiated Instruction and Culture-Based Education;
  • possesses skills in the area of data collection and management;
  • demonstrates competency in computer and technology skills;
  • has expertise in staff and program development and implementation.
  • A valid Driver’s License

Preference will be given to proficient educators with demonstrated literacy intervention experience, excellent initiative, planning, organization, communication, and interpersonal skills, and a track record of effective teaching experience. She/he will be known for a high standard of professionalism and will be a strong team player committed to working well with and earning the respect of school staff.
