    Full time term position for Educational Psychologist for the Labrador West Area. Duties to commence May 18, 2023 - June 23, 2023.

    As an Ed Psych you will be a part of school-based service delivery teams, responsible for the development, and support the implementation of interventions that promote the holistic development of students.

    Reporting to the Director of Student Services, you will provide leadership to school staff, service to students, conduct assessments, and participate in response planning for possible critical incidents/traumatic events. As part of the school’s service delivery team, you will further the aims and objectives of NLESD and support improved educational opportunities through program support.

    Staff will engage a blended service delivery model encompassing both direct service and virtual services as required.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    Standards of Practice provide an overarching framework of principles that describe the knowledge, skills and values that guide the professional practice of all educational psychologists in the Newfoundland and Labrador education system. They guide the development of yearly comprehensive work plans. They are not synonymous with the roles and responsibilities of educational psychologists, or expectations for specific practice in their day to day work. Standards of Practice guide professional judgment and actions, foster a common understanding of what it means to be a member of the profession, outline competencies expected and guide professional learning plans. The standards include:

    • Comprehensive Work Plan - The Ed Psych, after consultation with the administrative team of each assigned school, will develop one comprehensive work plan that outlines the psychological services he/she will provide throughout the school year.

    • Diversity - The Ed Psych understands the dimensions of human diversity and the possible influence they may have on child/adolescent development.

    • Comprehensive Assessment - The Ed Psych understands the assessment process and its implications for student learning. They adhere to the comprehensive assessment guidelines established by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, are able to conduct Level C assessments and have knowledge of the DSM-V.

    • Collaboration & Consultation - The Ed Psych collaborates and consults with families, educators and the school community and contributes to the school development plan.

    • Behaviour & Mental Health - The educational psychologist has extensive and demonstrated knowledge of child development, diverse learning needs and works with other district staff and the school community to address issues related to student behaviour and mental health.

    • Kindergarten to Gr 12 System - The Ed Psych will demonstrate an understanding of the education system,department and district guidelines and policies as they pertain to student services, crisis intervention and knowledge of proactive measures in creating a safe, caring, and inclusive learning environment.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor of Education and a Masters Degree in Psychology (i.e Masters Degree in Educational Psychology, Masters Degree in Counselling/Counselling Psychology).

    • A Valid NL Teaching Certificate.

    • Applicants must be eligible for registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador Psychology Board.

    • Travel is a requirement of the job. Use of a private vehicle will be required.
