HanMac Capital is a single family office based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. They have a broad portfolio of real-estate, largely in the Canadian market, and hold a diversified portfolio of marketable securities. HanMac's passion is growing entrepreneurial businesses. Their strategy is to grow a diversified investment portfolio of private businesses, commercial real-estate, and marketable securities.

We are partnering with HanMac Capital to look for a highly motivated and experienced Director of Finance and Administration to lead the finance and accounting team in their downtown Halifax office. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all financial aspects of the business, including financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, accounting, and tax compliance.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee the monthly financial reporting for the holding and real estate companies, including monthly variance analysis.
  • Work with company auditors to complete annual audits and review engagements.
  • Prepare budgets for the company's holding and real estate companies.
  • Maintain a complete overview of all charitable giving.
  • Review daily cash and liquidity positions (credit facilities, marketable securities, etc.).
  • Prepare a 12-month rolling cashflow forecast.
  • Negotiate and manage credit facilities for holding and real estate companies.
  • Provide banking compliance certificates to banking partners in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate all tax compliance work with out-sourced tax partners for corporate, trust, and personal tax returns.
  • Work with tax advisors to improve the tax-efficiency of charitable giving.
  • Oversee the preparation of bi-weekly payroll and annually review benefits plan.
  • Oversee the commercial real estate investments.
  • Work with agents to secure new tenants.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • CPA designation.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of finance, accounting, and tax principles.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate financial risks.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with a proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
