An essential front line role within the Storytelling unit, the Digital Story Coordinator is an important contributor to building a compelling narrative around the work we do at the City of Edmonton, and highlighting the people and places that make this place home.

The Digital Story Coordinator will be responsible for producing visual content including long-form and short-form videos and photographs. They will ensure content is optimized for various City channels including websites, blogs and social media. The work of the Digital Story Coordinator is founded in The City Plan and supports Edmonton’s place brand efforts.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Produce, shoot and edit high-quality, engaging video content for City of Edmonton channels
  • Collaborate with partners and stakeholders to come up with creative communication solutions to meet business needs
  • Ensure products meet brand standards and accessibility requirements
  • Develop interview questions and arrange interviews with interviewees
  • Ensure interviewees are aware of story angle, potential questions and production approach
  • Edit footage supplied by colleagues into professional videos and photos that align with the City’s brand
  • Support the technical production of both in-person and virtual media availabilities
  • Collaborate with the Media Relations team to ensure the media’s needs are met with these productions, which may include coordinating directly with journalists and newsroom production staff
  • Provide support to team members in delivering these productions
  • Actively contribute to a positive branch culture through collaborative and supportive teamwork, participating in and contributing to corporate and branch culture teams and workshops
  • Participate in department-wide employee committees and working groups, including those focusing on employee safety, diversity and inclusion and other employee experience-related groups
  • Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications:
  • A Diploma from an approved post secondary institution in audio-visual, multimedia, radio-television broadcasting, journalism, or a related program
  • One year of related experience working in a video production, or related work environment where producing daily, deadline-based broadcast and photographic products is required
  • Skills and knowledge must be demonstrated through a portfolio of related digital and social media storytelling and multimedia work submitted with the candidate application. Instructions for your application as follows:
    • Video reel format no longer than 90 seconds in length
    • Reels should showcase your body of work, highlighting your skills and video editing style
    • Can be submitted as a YouTube, Vimeo or website link attached to your cover letter, resume or a separate document
  • Experience and knowledge using video, photography and audio equipment and editing software
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, clean and compelling copy including video scripts, speaking points and social media content
  • Knowledge of effective storytelling techniques and methods through the digital realm
  • Experience using all the current and emerging social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram
  • Knowledge of best practices and trends in social media like transitions in order to find new and innovative ways of connecting our audiences
  • Understanding of how digital content is shared and amplified through social media platforms and the ability to help others understand this
  • Proficient in video editing software such as Final Cut Pro , DaVinci Resolve and/or Adobe Premiere Pro. Experience with Adobe After Effects will be considered an asset
  • Strong knowledge of video production and post-production workflows, including color grading, sound design and visual effects
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of photo editing and graphic illustration software including Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, InDesign
  • Advanced computer skills and familiarity with Google applications, including Docs, Sheets, and Slides
  • Confident with interviewing subjects and the ability to gain their trust quickly to help them feel comfortable in an interview setting; the willingness to listen, learn and lead with empathy
  • Exceptionally strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of the Corporation and with key stakeholders
  • Service-minded with highly-developed communication skills, including written, verbal, and visual
  • Ability to hold self and peers accountable for their contributions and impact to culture
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to plan and prioritize work independently in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and competing deadlines
  • Must possess a valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
