As the Executive Director of Finance for the Calgary Police Service (CPS), you will report functionally to the City Treasurer and indirectly to the Chief of Police. Primary responsibilities include:
  • Liaise with the Finance and Audit Committee and the Police Commission and coordinate, review and present all financial reports that have financial implications.
  • Lead in matters relating to financial operations of the Service, including budget reviews, assessment of financial and performance results, communicating of financial policies, strategies and processes.
  • Assist the Chief of Police and Chairperson of the Calgary Police Commission in presenting budgets and other ad hoc reports to Council.
  • Develop administrative and operational policies and procedures that guide the day-to-day operations of CPS and responsible for identifying potential problems/inefficiencies.
  • Assist in resolving specific operational issues, and evaluating recommendations by various Issues Teams, Committees and Focus Groups.
  • Consult and maintain communication on issues such as financial policies, financial reporting, budget transfer of funds, new systems development, internal control, audit results, etc. with the City Treasurer and Other Divisional Managers in the Finance Business Unit.
  • Mentor, coach and train emerging leaders on business finance, budget performance and reporting within the policing environment.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field accompanied by a professional accounting designation with at least 10 years of progressive senior management experience including both operational and corporate financial guidance and leadership; including at least 5 years at a senior or executive leadership level.
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
  • Experience in a unionized, law enforcement or paramilitary environment will be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience communicating complex technical information, leading organizational change and/or coordinating projects, programs or events would be considered an asset.
  • Implementation and operational management experience in an organization of significant size and complexity would be considered an asset.
  • Competencies for this position include leadership, strategy development and implementation, change management, communication, managing resources, planning and prioritizing/visionary and relationship building.

work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
