Purpose of the Position:

The Business Development Manager (BDM), Lobster will be part of Clearwater's Global Markets team. Global Markets is responsible for what and how we target and segment markets, channels and customers as well as innovate (our products and services), brand, position, price, package, promote and sell our products to deliver superior customer satisfaction and value at attractive and or increasing prices/margins for Clearwater. The BDM will support delivery of all these efforts.

The BDM will also interface directly with Clearwater's Global Supply Chain (GSC) and Fleet Teams. The GSC and Fleet Teams are responsible for what and how we harvest, procure, process, package, warehouse, innovate, and deliver superior customer satisfaction and value, with the highest quality and safety at the lowest cost.

Reporting Structure:

  • This position will report to the General Manager, Lobster.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the General Manager on the delivery of key financial, operational, marketplace, and strategic objectives.
  • Liaise between Global Supply Chain (such as plants), Fleet, Sales, and the Marketing Teams to create and accomplish "team" objectives and profitability in the species.
  • Assist Sales and Marketing with the development of the species marketing strategy that is consistent with Clearwater's overall strategy. This would include plans on pricing, appropriate selling channels, promotion and marketing and product formats.
  • Provide regular competitive intelligence updates.
  • Implement the pricing strategy and the species operating plans and budgets in coordination with the General Manager.
  • Establish annual and monthly sales targets in Pounds, Net Sales $, Gross Margin $, and Gross Margin %.
  • Understand and support optimal management of supply & demand as required via S&OP systems (Sales & Operational Planning).
  • Coordinate completion of the supply/demand forecast matrix in pounds with those that require supply/demand alignment. Interpret and take corrective action by providing recommendations on long and short positions.
  • Compare specie sales/margins forecast versus budget vs actual to identify gaps and opportunities. Based on GAP analysis, identify potential short-term or long-term solutions to enhance results.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with Fleet on fishing plans, TAC and quota, capital investment (repair and maintenance, new technology, etc.), and catch costs.

Qualifications:

  • A post-secondary education is required, preferably a degree in Business.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience working in the seafood industry or related industry.
  • Previous experience in a product or category management role.
  • Proven experience with lobster sales is an asset.
  • Experience in Sales and Marketing.
  • Sound knowledge or experience in Operations.
  • Experience building relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Highly proficient in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Strong negotiating and presentation skills.
  • Experience working in a liaison role is an asset.

Working Conditions:

  • Location: Bedford, NS
  • Travel: Travel to production plants, sales offices and customer locations is required. International travel may be required.
