As a member of the Municipal Accommodations Division, the Building Servicer 2 – Aquatics works under the supervision of the Foreman Grade 2 and performs a variety of duties that include the operating and repairs of equipment, maintaining water quality, performing custodial work related to all aspects of the buildings activities, operating and maintaining various types of tools, completing reports and records as required, maintaining building and inventory of same, assisting in the training of employees and responding to customer service requests. In the course of carrying out daily tasks, the incumbent practices established procedures in the execution of assigned duties. In the absence of the Pool Foreman, will act in this position as required.

Will perform other duties as assigned that fall within the classification.

As the Building Servicer 2 – Aquatics, you will:

  • Perform routine equipment maintenance on building equipment systems, and repairs as required.
  • Perform a variety of custodial duties, general and maintenance repairs to building equipment.
  • Be responsible for testing and maintaining proper water quality in all of the pool facilities in order to maintain proper water chemistry as required by Manitoba Health regulations.
  • Assist in the orientation of fellow employees and maintains co-operative working relations.

Your education and qualifications include:

  • Grade 12 or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience as a Building Servicer 1 or equivalent.
  • Experience using hand and power tools, power-operated custodial equipment and measuring instruments.
  • Knowledge in the operation of swimming pool maintenance (vacuuming, water testing, and balancing pool water).
  • Knowledge in maintenance procedures of buildings, heating, ventilation, cooling systems and their components.
  • Knowledge of materials, chemicals and safe handling practices related to the position (WHMIS).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to orient new staff.
  • Ability to work independently and organize tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to delegate tasks and provide direction to junior staff.
  • Ability to deal harmoniously with other staff and building users and the general public.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with staff, building users and the public.
  • Written communication skills with the ability to produce clear and concise documents.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Knowledge of safe working methods and practices, including the occupational hazards and safety precautions and regulations that are applicable to the position’s area of work.

Conditions of employment:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License. The successful applicant will be required to provide a driver’s notice in force document upon request.
  • The successful applicant is required to provide a vehicle for transportation while on City business, subject to the terms and conditions of the City Transportation Policy.
  • Must possess a 5th Class Power Engineer’s Certificate. 4th Class Power Engineer’s Certificate would be an asset.
  • Must possess a Swimming Pool Operations and Management Certificate or willingness to obtain within eighteen (18) months.
  • Must possess a St. John’s Ambulance Emergency First Aid Certificate or equivalent or willingness and ability to obtain it within three (3) months.
  • Must be willing and have the ability to complete WHMIS, Fall Protection and Transportation of Dangerous Goods in-house courses within twelve (12) months.
  • Must be willing and have the ability to complete Foremanship Level 1 Training within twelve (12) months.
  • Aquatics operates on a 24 hours per day, 7 days per week basis. Must be able to work various shifts during the week and weekends including, days, evening and overnight. Must be willing and able to move locations per Management direction based on operational needs.
  • Must be physically capable of performing all of the duties of the position, in all weather conditions. This includes, but may not be limited to climbing ladders and scaffolds, working at heights and working in confined spaces or in a warm, humid environment.
  • The successful applicant(s) will be required to provide CSA approved personal protective safety boots (six (6) inches above the ankle) at their own expense.
