Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for a full time permanent position as
Utility Operator 3 with Infrastructure and Maintenance Operations, Public Works, Streets and Roads East, Asphalt. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position encompasses a wide variety of general labour duties in various locations indoors and outdoors in various working conditions. To work in this position, you should enjoy driving and be able to work under minimal supervision. This position requires teamwork, flexibility, organizational skills, safety awareness and pride in delivering high-quality public service to benefit our citizens.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates light vehicles and equipment (such as but not limited to the following; 3 ton, 1 ton, Bobcat, Small Front End Loader, Kabota, Trackless, motorized hand tampers, Ride on Asphalt Roller, Compressor;
- Load and unload equipment and materials;
- Maintain and safely operate assigned tools/equipment;
- Work safely and cooperatively assisting other classifications in asphalt operations daily.
- Mandatory participation in the Winter Works program including shift work;
- Contribute to meeting the operational objectives of the business unit and HRM;
- Other IMO duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Grade 12 or equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Three (3) years related work experience.
- Must have a valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License Class 5.
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills;
- Must have a good attendance and work record;
- Working knowledge of methods, material and equipment usage involved in Municipal Operations;
- Capable and willing to work inside and outside in varying weather conditions;
- Ability to work independently, and as a team player;
- Ability to follow instructions, and communicate effectively with coworkers, traffic control, and members of the public, including oral and written communication;
- WHMIS, CPR/First Aid certification, Provincial Traffic Control Certification and Signage Course or ability to successfully complete;
- Duties and responsibilities to be performed inside and outside in varying weather conditions;
- Operation of equipment and tools in difficult conditions;
- Work environment may include industry acceptable levels of dust, fumes, noise, etc.
Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

WORK STATUS: Full time, permanent
HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:00 pm; 40 hours per week.
SALARY: $24.52 per hour, as per the Collective Agreement between CUPE Local 108 and the Halifax Regional Municipality.
