AECOM has an exceptional opportunity for a mid-level Infrastructure Economist. We are seeking a self-motivated and seasoned economist to join a well-established but growing group that provides economic research and findings for some of the most interesting infrastructure-related economic questions.
Our clients are typically private sector and governmental entities who bring to us infrastructure economic projects that help them view their current or future infrastructure needs. Our client's solutions often start with our research results.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

- Technical/Team leader for client projects, including staff project assignments and professional guidance
- Day-to-day internal and external client interaction
- Provide solutions to internal/external client questions that are developed from a foundation of understanding or analysis of client business practices and goals
- Ensure the highest level of economic research is conducted through defining the scope of work, developing qualification statements, and developing project strategy plans
- Support the transportation planning team, serving as a technical analyst specialist with a focus on transit infrastructure business cases, cost-benefit and strategic analysis for a variety of transit and transportation planning type projects
- Preparing documentation related to current or prospective projects, including correspondence, reports, maps, proposals, expressions of interest, specifications, consultation materials, and meeting minutes
- Communicating and working with other project team members, including mentoring junior-level team members
- Liaising with and assisting other departments and offices in the provision of transportation planning services to clients
- Completing work within the prescribed time and budget while maintaining high quality
- Leading business development activities, proposals
- Interprets and applies applicable government codes, ordinances and regulations.
- Initiates actions necessary to correct deficiencies or violations of regulations.
- Acts as a liaison between community groups, government agencies, developers and elected officials in developing business cases.
- Writes and presents formal and technical reports, working papers and correspondence.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, civil/transportation engineering or a related field
- 4+ years of economic transportation research or similar industry
- 2+ years experience in applied econometrics or advanced forecasting
Preferred Qualifications:

- Ideally, 5+ years of economic transportation research or similar industry
- Experience with MS EXCEL or ACCESS (including VBA macros) and econometric programs such as SPSS, Limdep, Alogit, and EVIEWS
- Managing large data sets using excel (or other tabulation software) and developing macros (using VBA/Excel, python, etc)
- Experience applying economic/travel market assessment models
- Commitment to quality and providing objective analysis and attention to detail
- Ability to interact with clients on a regular basis
- Significant technical experience in one or more economic/travel market analysis areas and ability to independently lead tasks and small to mid-size projects
- Experience in a professional consulting environment
- Experience in transportation planning policies and infrastructure economics, including appreciation of transit service systems and revenue forecasting
- Familiarity with public finance issues related to municipalities and provinces in BC and Canada, including revenue tools and development charges
- Working knowledge and understanding of current transportation planning, policy, and infrastructure initiatives in the BC (with an emphasis on transit), land use and demographic trends in the region, and general urban planning and related policy issues
- Excellent technical writing skills and experience writing a variety of deliverable types, including technical memoranda, reports, and public-facing documents.
- Must be able to perform economic projects independently and lead tasks
- Strong verbal communicator, including presentation, facilitation and listening skills
Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite that includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint
