Duties:

Reporting to the Manager of Recreation and Marketing, the Supervisor of Recreation Services will be responsible for the effective and efficient supervision of all activities and staff involved in the delivery of recreation programs and services for the community. We are looking for a candidate that will contribute passion, skills, expertise, and assets to the goal of building healthy/strong communities, both inside and outside of the City of Stratford.

Work Performed:

  • Train, develop, mentor, and supervise the daily activities of staff supporting recreation programs and services.
  • Provide backup and support to the Manager of Recreation and Marketing.
  • Lead in the development, maintenance, implementation and supervision of technology systems and practices supporting recreation services including recreation registration systems, connected financial systems (hardware and software), data collection and analysis within systems, digital display management, municipal sponsorship and partnership programs, website content creation.
  • Assist in the research, development and supervision of specialized recreation programs including but not limited to day camps, aquatics, adult and senior recreation, and community-based recreation initiatives and opportunities.
  • Demonstrate and provide exemplary customer service to public and staff, maintain records, write reports, make presentations, and assist in the development and interpretation of department practices and policies and practices, determine business unit needs, supervise projects and grants, provide data to support fiscal plans, and supervise financial reconciliations.
  • Comply with all workplace Health and Safety Policies and Procedures including but not limited to: attend and participate in all H&S training and education activities; identify and report all H&S risks, accidents, incidents, injuries and damage and ensure all activities are carried out in a safe manner including the proper use of all assigned personal protective equipment.
  • Develop, build, and maintain partnerships with citizens, community groups and professional networks.
  • Undertake special community and departmental projects as assigned.
  • Represent the Corporation on internal/external committees as required.
  • As required, participate in emergency response situations.
  • As required, perform work outside regular working hours, on evening and weekends, including standby assignments.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • College diploma (3 years) in Recreation or related field.
  • Minimum of three years related professional experience and demonstrated success in recreation program development and delivery; team leadership and supervisory responsibilities.
  • Valid G driver’s license and use of a vehicle.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in protecting technological investments with a comprehensive understanding of recreation registration systems, connected financial systems and digital management.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and customer services skills, including conflict resolution and problem solving and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations and stakeholders within the community.
  • Knowledge and evidence in the application of the principles and practices of municipal recreation programs including the unique needs of children, youth, adults, and seniors.
  • Experience in aquatic, day camp, and drop-in recreation program environments.
  • Current National Lifeguard Service and Swim Instructors (an asset).
  • Current First Aid, CPR and AED Certification.
  • Proven commitment to the safety of employees with knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations as it relates to the position.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
  • Valid G driver’s license and use of a vehicle.

Specialized Skills, Abilities, Training, License, Memberships, or Certifications

  • Current Certified Pool Operators.
  • Completion of High Five Healthy Child Development program
  • Proven commitment to the safety of employees with knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations as it relates to the position.
  • Proficient in the Xplor Recreation Services System or other similar recreation registration services system.
