Regular Full-time

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-kwuh-tlum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the sq̓əc̓iy̓aɁɬ təməxʷ (Katzie), and other Coast Salish Peoples.

One of BC’s Top Employers, the City of Coquitlam offers meaningful career opportunities to make a difference within the local community. As the sixth largest city in BC, we are home to more than 150,000 residents. Our diverse municipality is a great place to work as it continues to grow through innovative urban design, inspiring arts, culture and recreation programs, and state-of-the-art transportation systems. Our brand is built on managing our resources in a responsible and sustainable manner, while supporting a vibrant, growing regional urban centre. We envision a bright future in Coquitlam that we hope includes you!

The City is seeking a candidate who enjoys complex accounting and budgeting work, as well as consistently evolving technologies in support of the Finance Department. The Senior Financial Analyst will form part of our Financial Planning team, reporting to the Financial Planning Manager and working closely with the analysts in the department. This is an exciting opportunity to work with and assist peer departments in preparing their annual operating budget submissions, and working on a variety of financial planning related analytics. The successful incumbent will be analytical, detail oriented and independent as working with significant data sets will be critical for the preparation of financial analyses, reports, data visualizations, and relative correspondence. You will have advanced Excel skills to structure and analyze large volumes of data while working in a fast pace, deadline-oriented environment. In this role you will be involved in coordinating subsets of the annual Five Year Financial Plan related to the operating budget.

Teamwork is at the heart of this role and not only will you have the opportunity to learn from colleagues in your profession, but this opportunity will also allow you to connect with staff across the City in a variety of disciplines while supporting the financial needs of the organization. This rewarding opportunity is well suited for a driven professional that is keen on contributing to our local community. The Senior Financial Analyst will bring forward a thorough understanding of accounting principles, practices, procedures, systems and controls. This includes being familiar with laws and regulations governing the work that we do, but also excellent skills in commonly used computer applications and the ability to effectively communicate with others.

The ideal candidate will hold a university degree in Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline, and must hold a CPA designation and be proficient with Microsoft Excel. Experience with budgeting, long-term forecasting, systems including PeopleSoft, Oracle and Maximo would be considered an asset.
