New Job Senior Communications Officer In Northwest Territories

The Department of Finance has the mandate to provide leadership and direction to the public service in all areas of finance and human resource management. This mandate includes negotiating major financial arrangements with the federal government, providing analysis and advice to the Financial Management Board, and ensuring that financial and information resources are managed effectively, efficiently and economically. This mandate also includes the recruitment and retention of a competent public service that is representative of the people it serves and the development of programs and services that effectively serve the human resource needs of the public service.

Working in a team environment, you would recommend, develop and implement communications strategies for the Departments of Finance and Executive and Indigenous Affairs (the “Departments”) that promotes and advances the mission, vision, goals and objectives of the Departments. You would provide expert communications advice to lead the Departments’ communications initiatives and represent the Departments in any interdepartmental or government-wide communications initiatives. You would be innovative and creative in your solutions to communication challenges and opportunities.

To be successful in this role, you will have knowledge of governance in the Northwest Territories and understanding of the NWT's economic, social, cultural and political environment. You will also have strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Finally, you would have a university degree in Communications, Public Relations or related field with 3-5 years of related work experience.
