POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior Analyst, Investment Accounting is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of various investment portfolios of equity and debt investments, including Growth and Transition Capital (GTC), Growth Equity Partners (GEP), Intellectual Property-backed Financing (IP) and Cleantech Practice (CIP) investments, with direct investments and indirect investments through partnerships/funds, ensuring that all financial reporting is in accordance with IFRS.
CHALLENGES TO BE MET
  • GTC, GEP, IP and CIP Monthly, Quarterly and Annual Financial Reporting
    • Lead the close for the accounting period
    • Direct investments and various partnerships/funds in GTC and Venture Capital
    • Ensure that all financial reporting is in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
    • Ensure proper processes and controls are in place to maintain the integrity, accuracy and completeness of GTC, GEP, CIP and IP financial information being recorded in different sub-ledgers and other BDC systems
    • Provide support and expertise in the establishment of accounting policies and procedures regarding investment accounting and ensuring they are in accordance with IFRS
    • Responsible for the analysis of financial results in comparison to budgets and actual results from prior periods to identify trends and variances which may require corrective action by management
    • Prepare and review various quarterly reports such as operations review and write-off schedule
    • Participate in the preparation of investments annual budget, forecasts and Corporate Plan, activity reports and presentations to senior management
  • Fair Value Mark to Market (M2M) process
    • Provide front office with data required to complete the fair value review of all investments
    • Provide support to investment valuation team
  • Long Term Incentive Plan
    • Provide accounting data from different systems to HR for the calculation
    • Coordination with Internal Audit, Human Resources and GTC
    • Prepare carried interest calculation for GE/IP/CIP
    • Respond to ad-hoc queries
  • Consolidation Accounting
    • Complex analysis to combine business units for consolidated reporting
    • Complex control assessment process for GTC Direct Equity investments to ensure no consolidation of investments is required as per GAAP
  • Special Projects as required
    • Lead, participate in, or assist with special projects/analysis of reporting-related activities, i.e., internal control review
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance)
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA), an asset
  • Other professional designations (CFA, CBV), an asset
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting
  • Audit experience, an asset
  • Strong financial, accounting and analytical skills
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and working knowledge of Access and PowerTerm (Abacus)
  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft and BusinessObject (BI), an asset
  • Strong ability to learn and implement policies and procedures
  • Strong ability to work under pressure and meet set deadlines
  • Ability to grasp new concepts quickly
  • Attention to detail and takes ownership at work
  • Knowledge of the subordinate debt, private equity and venture capital industry
  • Initiative & creativity
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to foster relationships with internal customers
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • Bilingualism (French and English)
