About Us


Role



Central Region Children’s Services - Specialized Services unit has an opportunity for you! As the Central Region Licensing Officer, you will be responsible under the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act to provide information, consultation, orientation, evaluation and monitoring to potential and existing Residential Facility placement providers such as Foster Homes, Group Homes and Residential and Secure Facilities. You will work collaboratively with contracted agency foster homes, residential care facilities and Delegated First Nations Agencies to ensure compliance under the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act, Residential Facilities Licensing Regulations and Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Policy.

You will be responsible to complete environmental assessments, measure facilities for capacity, monitor and inspect facilities, address non-compliance and negotiate goals and timeframes for improvement. Working with residential facilities license holders, you will recommend granting initial and renewed Residential Facility licenses. You will also be responsible for addressing and following up concerns to ensure the safety of children in government care.

The successful candidate must have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to make sound assessments and good decision making skills. The successful candidate will possess the following attributes: an interest and ability to work closely with community partners, well-developed organization and time management skills as well as excellent written documentation and verbal communication skills. Travel is required throughout the region.

Qualifications



Bachelor of Social Work or Social Work Diploma with no related experience. Experience working with foster parents, group care, residential programs and multiple stakeholders is preferred. Understanding and knowledge working with Indigenous peoples and communities is an asset.

The following equivalencies maybe considered; Master of Social Work and no experience, a related university degree with one years of related experience; or a related diploma plus two years of related experience.

Note: Equivalency for professional roles related to Child Intervention: Directly related degree or diploma, successful completion of in-service or comparable training and some directly related experience.

The ideal candidates will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong critical thinking skills. Additionally, they will be required to demonstrate the skills, knowledge, abilities and competencies as outlined in the Job Profile.

Salary


$2,255.61 - $2,907.15 bi-weekly ($58,871 - $75,876 annually)

Notes


This is a full time temporary position to April 3, 2024. The hours of work are Monday to Friday - 36.25 hours weekly. (Working after-hours or outside of regular business hours may be required)

Final candidates for these positions are required to undergo an academic check, reference checks, child intervention record check and a security screening.

This role requires you to have a valid Class 5 Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle

As per the Health Professions Act successful applicants must be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) to be eligible for this position, if:
(a) they have a degree in social work from any university in North America that is accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education (CASWE) or the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE); or
(b) they have graduated from an approved social work diploma program in Alberta; or
(c) they have, within the last five years, been a registered, certified or licensed social worker in another province or with a member of the Association of Social Work Boards. Please be prepared to provide your registration details at the time of interview.
