Operations Superintendent
Harbour Development is a large Eastern Canadian Marine Construction and Dredging company. Harbour Development specializes with delivering professional services in all aspects of marine dredging and marine construction services to various private and public marine stakeholders throughout Atlantic Canada, Quebec, Ontario and Western Canada.
We operate a fleet of spud barge dredges, shallow draft workboats, tugboats, cranes, and dump scows, that is primarily located in Saint John, New Brunswick.
We are currently seeking applicants for the position of Operations Superintendent. The successful candidate will be supervising the day-to-day operations with the primary focus being, 1. Direct Supervision of Crew members, 2. Implementing policies and strategies to meet business objectives 3. Identify and execute business improvement opportunities.
Responsibilities:
  • Ensure work is being carried out in a safe and efficient manner to hit project completion timelines.
  • Identify department needs in terms of standards and implement corrective action as required.
  • Manage the maintenance of vessel systems and determine procedures for identifying regular maintenance planning.
  • Provide safety leadership and perform safely on all projects and in compliance with environmental requirements. Advance the company's safety initiatives, conduct safety audits, liaise with JOHS committee, and coordinate training.
  • Follow all regulatory and company policies while performing job functions.
  • Manage crew schedules, i dentify, formalize, and communicate crewing requirements.
  • Monitor crew safety performance.
  • Provide coaching, guidance and corrective action to crew members as required.
  • Provide updates to stakeholders on the status of the projects. Maintaining regular communication with various departments is critical in this role. Ensuring work aligns with standards, specifications, and schedules.

Training, Experience and Certification Requirements:
  • Engineering Degree or College Diploma along with 5 years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Strong safety leadership skills and safety record.
  • Continuous improvement mindset regarding productivity.
  • Ability to take the initiative, work independently, make decisions, and develop recommendations.
  • Comfortable with technology and learning new applications.
  • Knowledge of purchasing, sales, and wholesale processes.
  • Tickets and experience in Marine Operations considered an asset.
