As an Officer-Prisoner Escort within our Prisoner Escort Bureau , you will be responsible for transporting and escorting prisoners, with accountability for the safety and security of persons in their charge .

Responsibilities

What will your typical day look like? Escorts prisoners to and from Ontario Court of Justice and Superior Court of Justice courtrooms, providing security and control at all times. Transports prisoners to and from Ministry institutions and divisional holding cell facilities. Performs searches of prisoners brought into the cell area and seizes hazardous items, as required. Applies security restraints to inmates being transported to and from detention facilities or courtrooms. Screens the public entering the courthouse for weapons, using magnetometers and hand held scanning wands. Answers telephone inquiries from Court Services personnel, Court Clerks, Judicial members, divisional officers, other police departments, and Ministry of Corrections personnel. Maintains accurate records of prisoner location, court disposition, and officer's memo notebook at all times; ensures the secure storage of prisoner's property. Inspects vehicles, cuffs, cells, and defensive weapons to ensure the safety and reliability of equipment. Performs additional duties as assigned.

You are someone with: A High School Diploma or equivalent, plus additional police science courses and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience A minimum of one year related experience required MS Outlook-Preferred Valid Certificate in First Aid and CPR Effective oral communication skills Demonstrated physical ability to perform all activities Ability to handle stressful situations in a positive manner Valid Ontario Driver's Licence (Class G) with full driving privileges

Pursuant to the requirements of P.R.P. Directive I-A-241(F), an applicant must consent to his/her ongoing participation in the Wellness Check In Program for the duration of the assignment, and must be deemed “suitable” to commence such duties based upon the pre-entry assessment of a clinical psychologist under contract to the Service in order to be confirmed as the successful applicant.
