The Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety is recruiting an Occupational Hygienist to promote and enforce compliance with The Saskatchewan Employment Act.
This position will be responsible for planning and intelligence gathering on current and emerging hazards that may exist in workplaces, to assess high-risk, priority employers, and will focus pro-actively on working with these employers to decrease the injury rate in the province. This position will also participate in workplaces inspections, address complaints, investigate dangerous occurrences, and support the legal unit in the investigation of serious injuries and fatalities; support workplace occupational health committees and worker representatives; educate and advise workers and employers on occupational hygiene matters; and help resolve disputes over occupational health and safety concerns. The ideal candidates will clearly demonstrate knowledge of hygiene related hazards in workplaces as well as knowledge of relevant regulations and standards.
Typically, the knowledge and abilities required for this position would be obtained through the completion of a degree in the Analytical Sciences, as well as 3 – 5 years of experience working in a safety professional role. The knowledge required would typically be obtained through a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or hygiene-related certification program.
