Municipal Enforcement Officer (Full-Time Permanent Position)

Department of Protective Services

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is currently accepting applications for a Municipal Enforcement Officer. This is a full-time permanent position within the Department of Protective Services. Reporting to the Director of Protective Services, the Municipal Enforcement Officer's primary responsibility is the enforcement of all municipal by-laws and regulations. The Municipal Enforcement Officer will be expected to carry out patrols of Town owned and public property, issue tickets, stop work orders and violation notices, coordinate education and public awareness programs, crime prevention and render assistance to the local detachment of the RCMP in areas of public protection as covered in the Town's by-laws or regulations and/or as directed by the local RCMP.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School graduation diploma or equivalent
  • Graduation from a recognized Police Academy with a diploma in Police Sciences, Criminal Justice or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years experience or combination in law enforcement, by-law enforcement, conducting investigations or court proceedings
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand statutes, regulations and by-laws
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and diplomacy when interacting with the public
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise and support RCMP or other law enforcement
  • Demonstrated ability to identify sensitive and confidential matters and identify where conflict exists
  • Possess and provide a copy of a valid Class 5 driver's licence or equivalent with a clean driver's abstract
  • Provide a clean provincial and federal criminal record check, as well as a vulnerable sector check
  • Knowledge of handling/controlling/caring for cats and dogs
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills
