The Ministry of Forests is responsible for the stewardship of provincial Crown land and ensures the sustainable management of forest, wildlife, water and other land-based resources. The Ministry works with Indigenous and rural communities to strengthen and diversify their economies.

The Growth and Yield Application Specialist contributes to the development of stand growth models and associated applications, provides expert advice and client support to users of these models, and applies growth and yield expertise to ministry priorities. The position provides definitive advice, analysis and information on stand growth and yield into the formulation of a wide range of ministry policies, standards and guidelines.

Job Requirements:

  • Master's degree or higher in forestry or an allied science, and a minimum of 3 years of related experience*; OR
  • Bachelor's degree in forestry or an allied science, and a minimum of 5 years of related experience*; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and related experience* may be considered.
  • Registered or immediately eligible** for registration as a Professional Forester with Forest Professionals BC.

**Note: Immediately eligible is defined as being registered as a Registered Professional Forester in another Canadian jurisdiction and able to transfer that membership to the FPBC within 6 months of employment. It is the responsibility of the applicant to have the FPBC review their qualifications to ensure they have the necessary requirements for registration.

  • Related experience includes all of the following:
  • Experience in forest growth modelling (e.g., tree or forest growth research and/or model fitting, growth and yield computer model development and/or operation, application of growth and yield models and tools to forest management decision support, growth modelling research and extension, training and support in growth and yield modelling, etc.)

Preference may be given to applicants with 1 or more of the following:

  • Experience in the use and application of B.C. Forest Analysis and Inventory Branch growth and yield models and decision support tools (e.g., TASS, VDYP7, TIPSY, SiteTools, FAN$IER, etc.)
  • Experience in forest mensuration (e.g., forest inventory, biometrics, sampling, tree measurement, field sample assessment, quantitative data analysis and management, etc.)

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.
