Koch Fertilizer is looking for an Instrumentation and Control Specialist or Engineer in our Brandon, MB Location!!

This position offers exposure to a variety of Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) equipment/platforms while being contingent on the engineering fundamentals and reliability analysis. The successful candidate will support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of process control systems at KFC, Brandon. The successful candidate will support day-to-day Instrumentation and Control responsibilities for the facility and support capital projects. The role offers opportunities for training courses in engineering, supervision, and management to support personal development and business needs. The successful candidate will manage and perform as a member of a high-performing team. The individual will also lead opportunities to develop industry knowledge and experience.

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Lead/Support the site’s instrument integrity and reliability program
  • Develop instrument PM tasks and establish frequencies for execution
  • Develop and maintain written procedures, checklists, and acceptance forms to test and document that instrument and control loops are performing correctly
  • Lead/Support the development and enhancement of AMS Device Manager for HART-Smart instrument and field devices. Optimize utilization of the tool and technology for instrument, control valve, and control loop integrity and predictive maintenance
  • Act as a SME for the SPI intools.
  • Perform root cause failure analysis on instrumentation and control valves
  • Responsible for ensuring site is leveraging the most effective, economical, and reliable technologies to meet business and customer needs.
  • Increase site asset’s reliability
  • Participate in larger KAES and Koch Industries community of practices in these areas and integrate their work at Brandon site
  • Contribute towards execution of I&C scopes for projects and reliability improvement initiatives (e.g. PI implementation, digital transformation programs etc.) by ensuring timely and adequate subject matter expertise support.
  • Assure compliance and adherence to processes, industry codes and standards, quality systems, policies, and contractual requirements.
  • Provide timely support to the operations/maintenance team in troubleshooting of malfunctions and complex repairs.
  • Work with Maintenance, Operations and Plant Engineering to determine alternatives and provide guidance during problem analysis. Work to find the best fit for purpose solution that supports the needs of the business.
  • Provide input for planning & scheduling of the plant outages/turnarounds.
  • Identify control improvement opportunities and advanced control opportunities that align with Koch’s business goals for our operating plants
  • Ensure safety controls are performing per design and participate in functional safety work
  • Working knowledge of DeltaV DCS/SIS, PLCs from Schneider and Siemens S7-400, CCC controllers, protection system such as Woodward peak 150/200, Woodward protech 203/GII and CSI racks for high-speed rotating equipment
  • Proficiency in Instrument and control valve sizing.
  • Proficiency in communication protocol such as TCP/IP, Profibus, Profinet, Modbus Plus, Modbus Serial etc.
  • Proficiency with P&ID’s, control narratives, Cause & Effect diagrams, instrument and valve data sheets and then applying control skills to drive performance improvements to meet those business goals

The Experience You Will Bring

Requirements:

  • At least five (5) years of experience in the field of Instrument and Control Engineering.
  • Experience with troubleshooting in DeltaV DCS/SIS, PLC, Field Instrumentation.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience with computer aided tools and software to support responsibilities.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience in Similar Ammonia Plant.
  • I&C Engineering Degree with eligibility for registration in the Province of Manitoba as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng)
