Location

This position is required to work in person at 3332 Harvestor Road, Burlington, ON. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Transit Maintenance Supervisor, the General Service Person (GSP) will be part of a Team that is responsible for ensuring the fleet is cleaned, fueled and ready for dispatch. The GSP’s will contribute to the extensive bus cleaning program and support Operation with bus change-off as required.

Responsibilities

  • Must be able to perform, driving, fuelling, sweeping, litter/trash pickup, vacuuming, checking fluid levels (oil, coolant, windshield washer, diesel exhaust fluid etc.), check tires, removing / dumping fare boxes that may weigh up to 30 lbs; detailed interior cleaning on all Transit vehicles (buses, cars and trucks/vans).
  • Will be required to use a variety of cleaning and detergent products to perform interior and exterior cleaning all Transit Vehicles.
  • Perform vehicle change off as require by Operations
  • Will be required to meet reasonable time expectancy in performing assigned duties

Requirements

The successful candidate must possess a grade 12 education and a valid Ontario GZ licence with the ability to upgrade to a CZ class licence and be mechanically inclined in the use of tools and equipment such as: power washer, vacuum, automatic bus wash, fuel and other fluid dispensers, etc. An acceptable driver’s abstract is required (no more than three (3) driving related convictions and an accumulation of no more than three (3) demerit points in the previous three (3) years prior to the date of hire).

Each candidate should seriously consider the work environment and the nature of the work being performed. The environment is conducive to cleaning and maintaining buses. The work itself is physically demanding, repetitive in nature with continuous monitoring of production levels and quality standards. Shift work can include day, afternoon, night and weekend.
