Position Overview:
The City of Saint John is actively seeking a Finance Clerk to join the team. Under the general supervision of the Financial Services Supervisor, the position is responsible for maintaining records for flat rate customers, preforming collection functions, providing alternative payment plans to flat rate customers and metered customers based on established protocol, performing the cashier function as back up including the receipt of various payments. The position is also responsible for generating work orders for the installation and maintenance of water meters and issuing bills for water metered customers.

Responsibilities also include preparing and issuing miscellaneous invoicing and collecting for various civic departments including re-occurring charges for one third of total accounts. Rotating responsibilities in reconciling Accounts Receivables monthly and assisting with metered accounts billing as necessary.

Essential Qualifications:
A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Systems is required.

Excellent organizational, time management and prioritizing skills.

Diploma in Business Administration with an option in Accounting from community college or
Business Certificate 1 and an Accounting Certificate from university, or Business Certificate 1 and Business Certificate 2 or an equivalent program with concentration in accounting.

Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in an accounting role.

The successful applicant will work a compressed work week of 4 days (Monday to Thursday) under the City’s newly adopted Compressed Work Week Policy Trial.
